Northrop Grumman is hiring a Software Embedded Lead Systems Engineer to support our Civil Space Systems programs under our Tactical Space Systems Division located in Dulles, VA or Gilbert, AZ.

This role is in support of the Habitat and Logistics Outpost (HALO) program. HALO is the first pressurized habitable element of NASA's Gateway, a space station to be constructed in cis-lunar space. HALO is a complex system consisting of critical elements such as active thermal control, environmental control and life support systems, fault tolerant computing, high power systems, critical safety functions, crew interfaces in a volume and mass constrained structure. The vehicle is in advanced stages of design, however significant customer requirement changes are still forthcoming.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • The Embedded Lead System Engineer (eLSE) will be the responsible systems engineering authority for a group of software subsystems.
  • Depending on the subsystems and phase of the program, the eLSE may be responsible for managing a small team of engineers.
  • The eLSE will provide dedicated systems engineering support within subsystem engineering
  • The eLSE is a key layer of technical leadership in engineering to adequately support vendor reviews (TRRs, MRR, FRBs, UARs, etc), risk mitigation, special topic closure, and cross engineering integration
  • The eLSE will be the responsible authority for applicable L4 (subsystem specifications) from requirements development through verification. The eLSE will work closely with L3 Thread Leads in development and verification of the L4 and all lower-level specifications.
  • The eLSE will be responsible for proper requirement flowdown from L4 (subsystem) to L5 (component) and work closely with the relevant Cognizant Engineers to ensure adequacy of L5 specifications (including verification)
  • The eLSE will be the owner of the applicable subsystem test plans, report, and all corresponding lower-level documentation.
  • The eLSE will be accountable for full verification of all L4 and lower specifications in their area.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be a US citizen
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 14 years of relevant work experience or 12 years of relevant work experience with a Master's degree
  • Experience in fault tolerant computing networks
  • Extensive technical experience in systems engineering and integration of space systems.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in aerospace systems design, development, manufacture, test or operations, including 2 years of technical or project leadership positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience on prime integrated systems (not component/subsystem).
  • Full program lifecycle experience in the relevant thread, from requirements development through integration/test/verification.
  • Full program lifecycle in space systems experience.
  • Experience with significant mid program contractual change.
  • E xperience with Northrop Grumman Process and Procedures is highly desired
Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
