One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer (Cable Hardware Engineering Lead). An experienced multi-faceted engineer with a robust technical background in hardware product development that is interested in leading a multi-disciplinary team towards technical maturation of novel high-density cabling solutions.

This position requires on site work located at our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in Linthicum, Maryland OR our Annapolis Junction, Maryland location.
Your responsibilities:

You will lead a multi-disciplinary technical team of engineers and physicists to develop novel high-density cable prototypes.
You will make design decisions and provide technical direction on Interconnects and Signal Distribution (I&SD) Electrical Designs.
You will perform technical planning related to system integration, spearhead verification and validation efforts, execute trade studies, generate system requirements, and manage technical and schedule risk and opportunities.
You will be accountable to all program deliverables for any cable maturation work scope.
You will be collaborating with multiple technical teams across the MDA business area to achieve all relevant goals.
You will synthesize high-level technical details, generate content, and present results to both internal and external stakeholders.
What you need to be successful in the role:

Multi-disciplinary technical background in hardware or electrical engineering.
Experience with deriving requirements of less mature technologies towards long-term system applications.
Experience with risk and opportunity management.
Systems thinking approach to solving technical problems.
Have an ownership mindset and excellent leadership capabilities.
Ability to collaborate in a group setting as well as work independently.
This position can be filled as either a Principal Systems Engineer (Cable Hardware Engineering Lead) or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer (Cable Hardware Engineering Lead)
Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 5 years of digital engineering; 3 years with an MS degree; 0 years with PhD.
Experience in developing hardware technologies towards program goals.
Experience generating technical requirements for system applications from early technical maturity demonstrations.
Candidate must be a US Citizen
Clearance: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary US Government security clearance per customer requirements
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 8 years of digital engineering; 6 years with an MS degree; 4 years with PhD.
Experience in developing hardware technologies towards program goals.
Experience generating technical requirements for system applications from early technical maturity demonstrations.
Candidate must be a US Citizen
Clearance: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary US Government security clearance per customer requirements
Preferred Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:

PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field.
Knowledge of mixed-signal superconducting electronics, low-temperature thermal transport, and RF network response measurements and analysis.
Deep proficiency with RF design engineering and communicating requirements to external vendors.
Experience with novel cable technology development.
Track record of successfully leading multi-disciplinary technical teams to achieve complex objectives.
Active USG security clearance.
Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $131,100.00 - $206,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
