The Space Systems Sector is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer or Senior Principal Software Engineer in to join a Ground team based out of Morrisville NC or Fairfax VA.

The successful candidate for this position will join a group of Software engineers that is adapting and upgrading an existing Command and Control platform for a new ground program.

The team is seeking a talented engineer who resolves software problems and utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. The successful candidate shall have experience with C++, Perl or Python, requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components, experience with the full software design life cycle.

Software Engineer Job description: D esigns, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Basic Qualifications:

This position may be performed at a Principal Software Engineer level or Senior Principal Software Engineer level depending on the qualifications, skills, and experience of the candidate.

Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree, or 0 years with a PhD. 9+ years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Senior Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in STEM and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a PhD. 13 + years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI. Must have active Secret clearance to start on day one.
  • Experience with Agile software development using C++ in a Linux environment
  • Experienced with software requirements analysis and synthesis
  • Experience developing ground satellite orbit determination software
  • Experience with Perl or Python
  • Experience with Redhat Linux to enable development of software in the following languages: C++, Java, Perl, Python
  • Experience with the full software design life cycle
  • Experience with Cornerstone.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Commercial Cloud Services (C2S) or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experienced with Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • CI poly or FSP
  • Active TS/SCI
Salary Range: $97,500 - $160,900
Salary Range 2: $121,000 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
