Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking a Military Trainer / Principal Military Trainer - Models and Simulation to join our growing team of diverse professionals in Suffolk, Virginia . The Military Trainer conducts research and analysis of friendly and adversarial ground, maritime, and air capabilities and serves as the functional expert for the conceptualization, development and credible replication of friendly and opposing force (OPFOR) military units, platforms, systems, weapons, munitions and tactics in computer-assisted joint and combined military exercises and mission rehearsals.

Responsibilities:
  • P roduces OPFOR Campaign Plans and Campaign Overview Briefs in support of joint training events
  • Operates models and simulations (M&S) to replicate friendly and OPFOR forces during military training exercises and systems tests
  • Leverages understanding of the use of tactics, techniques, and procedures and how to control military forces in M&S
  • Current simulations include the Air Warfare Simulation (AWSIM), Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation (JCATS), Joint Semi Automated Forces (JSAF), Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS), and JCATS Low Overhead Driver (JLOD)
  • Develops M&S Systems Plans, trains M&S operators, and provides initial and refresher training on current M&S systems used for Joint Staff exercises
Basic Qualifications for Military Trainer - Models and Simulation:
One of the following:
  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional experience
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a commissioned officer, non-commissioned officer, or U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) civilian equivalent
  • Must be willing and able to travel both CONUS and OCONUS as needed (up to 25% of the time)
  • Must possess an active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport
  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with operation of a military simulation model
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • At least 5 years of leadership (supervisory) experience as a commissioned officer, non-commissioned officer, or U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) civilian equivalent
Basic Qualifications for Principal Military Trainer - Models and Simulation:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of professional leadership experience
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional leadership experience
  • Three years of experience on a 3-star or 4-star Joint or Service Headquarters Staff or civilian equivalent
  • Must be willing and able to travel both CONUS and OCONUS as needed (up to 25% of the time)
  • Must possess an active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. passport
  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia
Preferred Qualifications for Principal Military Trainer - Models and Simulation:
  • Joint Forces Staff College or PMEII graduate
  • Senior Service School graduate
  • Command assignment
  • Active U.S. DoD Top Secret security clearance
  • Joint Staff experience
  • Joint exercise experience
Salary Range: $58,000 - $87,000
Salary Range 2: $71,400 - $107,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
