The Propulsion operating unit (OU) with the MEP BU is seeking a
Mechanical Design Engineer (level 2) or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (level 3). The Propulsion OU designs and manufactures propellant management devices and tanks and is a leading supplier to the aerospace industry. The Principle Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineer will report to the Manager Engineering 2 of the operating unit.
A Mechanical Design Engineer (2/3) interfaces with a multidisciplinary set of their engineering peers and technical leads on the program to best understand the desired product. In this role, you will perform the complete product development process, from gathering requirements, developing conceptual and final designs, presenting to internal customers, developing a bill of materials (BOM), overseeing the build of and ultimately managing the configuration of the completed product. You will direct aspects of project design phases, and you should be skilled in the use of the standard design tools, such as 2D CAD platforms, and 3D CAD platforms (preferably Siemens NX).
This position requires work onsite at our Advanced Technologies Laboratory located in the Commerce, CA area.
Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the design of major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
* Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) equipment, develop basic data and make preliminary layouts, sketches and notes necessary to present design proposals to internal and external customers.
* Create layouts and drawings of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
* Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning (GD&T)
* Interact with design and development teams (teams include specialists in Design, Analysis, Quality, Materials, Manufacturing) to create and verify creative design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule)
This requisition may be filled at as a Mechanical Engineer or a Principal Mechanical Engineer based on years of relevant experience and capabilities in the areas listed below.
Basic Qualifications for a Mechanical Design Engineer and Principal Mechanical Design Engineer:

(Level 2) Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science subject area with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering or related area, Master's Degree with 6+ months of experience.

(Level 3) Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science subject area with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering or related area, Master's Degree with 10+ months of experience.
* NX or other 3D modeling software and drafting experience
* Experience with Teamcenter
* Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
* Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis
* Detailed knowledge of manufacturing best practices, including knowledge of machining, welding (Titanium prefer), and assembly
* Understanding of Aerospace industry standards and specifications and application to space flight components and drawings
* Knowledge of the welding specifications and understanding how to apply
* US Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications:

Effective verbal and written communication, ability to work in a team environment
* Experience with NX & Teamcenter
* Experience executing a project with minimal oversight
* Hands-on skills
* Able to solve fit, form, and/or function issues and quickly generate solutions
* Experience with pressure vessel design and manufacturing
* Experience with machining and welding of Titanium and Titanium Alloys
* Strong background in tooling materials and analysis
* FEA experience
* Experience in design of molds, machining fixtures, handling, and assembly tools for welding.
Salary Range: $79,300 - $118,900
Salary Range 2: $97,500 - $146,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
