Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for Tooling Manager 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within the Tool organization. Positions will be on site in Iuka, Mississippi.

Our tooling team designs Aerospace composite part fabrication tooling to support commercial and defense aerospace industries.

The tooling manager will be responsible for leading a team of machinists, Dimensional Control technicians, and mechanical technicians to maintain all program production tooling. The manager will direct a team of analysts and technicians that will interact with our operations departments to review and document the ongoing status of the tooling. The tooling maintenance team will work to proactively maintain the tooling to prevent out of tolerance conditions. The team will also be responsible for correcting any discrepant tooling that is found. The team will coordinate and perform annual tool maintenance and re-certifications on all tools that require annual certification. In addition to maintaining the production tooling, the team will be active in tool design reviews and provide input to tool designers to ensure that tools are maintainable once put into service.

The tooling maintenance team will inspect and implement high value composite fabrication and assembly tooling. The manager will also be responsible to support tooling proposal efforts, manage staffing and represent the department internally and with customers.

We work closely with manufacturing engineers, operations, CAD designers, safety, quality and procurement. We pride ourselves in influencing new methods to improve tooling safety, cost, schedule and operational efficiency.

Travel is intermittent, not expected to exceed 10%, and typically involves visits to vendors, customer facilities and Northrop Grumman sites.

Tooling Manager Job Duties:
  • Lead, provide oversight and guidance to ensure program objectives relative to tooling maintenance technical, quality, cost, schedule, and customer satisfaction requirements are met.
  • Manage tooling repairs in a timely manner.
  • Interface with internal and external customers; provide status and forecast of tooling maintenance cost and delivery.
  • Identify and develop staffing/skill requirements, forecasts, and training plans.
  • Develop, maintain, and update departmental procedures relative to the tooling life cycle, from proposal to implementation.
  • Develop and maintain, tooling annual certification processes for mastering to tools and properly documenting all maintenance activities.
  • Develop long-range plans and strategies to provide operationally efficient and affordable tooling products and services to fruition - continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with tooling maintenance for any damaged tooling that is identified during tool movement.
  • Coordinate incoming tool shipments with tool engineering, procurement, and the shipping department.
  • Perform program required tooling location data compliance audits.
  • Identify and develop staffing/skill requirements, forecasts, and training plans.
  • Develop, maintain, and update departmental procedures relative to the tooling life cycle, from proposal to implementation.
  • Collaborate with other Aeronautics Systems Sector Tooling Management to develop consistent process and procedures to help drive affordability and ensure the deployment of best practices across the sector.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED and 4 years of relevant professional experience in tooling fabrication, manufacturing, asset control, production planning, or tooling maintenance.
  • 1 year of experience leading teams or projects.
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Program access within a reasonable timeframe as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Current Special Program Access
  • Previous Supervisory and Management experience in managing maintenance groups, large projects, with an emphasis on tooling, manufacturing, assembly.
  • Aerospace or Aviation Industry experience managing tool fabrication organizations, tooling fabrication shops, and tooling procurement.
  • Project management, communication, and presentation skills

Salary Range: $85,500 - $128,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
