Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.The Ground Segment IPT Lead will be responsible for providing technical and operational leadership to the cross-functional organization across every aspect of day-to-day execution. The individual will have responsibility for helping lead a 120+ person multi-discipline engineering team and assist in guiding all program activities related to design, development, testing by focusing on delivering solutions, removing roadblocks, simplifying large, complex problems, and anticipating Customer needs to free up engineers to focus their time and attention on the technical problems they are best equipped to solve. This position requires a combination of project management, process optimization, technical proficiency and execution skills. This role will drive communications and operations for a large organization to keep the team informed and motivated, always prioritizing and supporting a healthy design culture.

The Lead serves an integral role in cultivating the Customer relationship, actively managing team requirements, and fostering program and team culture. The position requires a high degree of collaboration skills with the ability to provide insight into the status of multiple efforts at various levels of leadership. This role will be a trusted advisor and thought partner to design leadership in crafting the strategy, vision, and operational experience for future war fighting capabilities. The individual will be instrumental in fostering a culture of collaboration and user-focused design excellence through mentorship, coaching, and influence.
The Role:

Lead engineers and accelerate their growth by providing thoughtful feedback, technical mentorship, and effectively manage performance.

Collaborate across teams to prioritize, build and align strategies that improve ability to scale

Partner with senior engineers to build and champion a long-term tech roadmap to reduce operational burden, ensure scalability, reduce risk, and push the team towards step-changes in operational sustainability

Measure and report program performance through development and adherence to budget baselines utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM)

Manage risk, issue and opportunity processes. Identify potential risks and opportunities that could impact program performance and take proactive action to resolve issues regarding cost and schedule

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customer counterparts

Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at technical and program reviews and boards

End-to-end ownership over key product investments, delivering them with high velocity and quality - often across team boundaries.

Basic Qualifications:

Must have an active TS/SCI and be able to obtain Program Accesses

Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field from an accredited university with 10+ years experience OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years experience

3+ years' experience of program leadership experience with a history of people management and operational excellence.

Experience in Agile Software Development.

Demonstrated track record of successful mentorship and accelerating reports growth, being an effective multiplier for the team

Experience running a high-paced product development team across multiple locations and time zones, and react effectively to changes in Customer prioritization

Demonstrated success managing complex software development projects for an enterprise software company or startup

An ability to engage in technical discussion and invest in learning technical concepts.

Excellent judgment and composure in high-pressure situations

A creative approach to project management centered around lightweight frameworks that enable rapid iteration, while operating in harmony with a larger development organization

Meticulous attention to detail, including holding tightly to your team's vision and maintaining a high product quality bar

Preferred Qualifications:

6+ years in software engineering or similar role. Experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

3+ years of experience working in Design Operations, Creative Program Management, or similar field

Deep systems background delivering well-engineered and durable solutions, leading technical discussions, design, and code reviews

Willingness and enthusiasm to do what it takes to get things done, leading by example and getting involved with the team's day-to-day work

Passion for user experience and design with an understanding of the design process

Experience building and fostering a robust, collaborative, inclusive team environment

High emotional intelligence and the ability to adapt your communication and operational style situationally

Experience working directly with product and engineering on ambiguous problems and crafting big picture strategies

Ability to establish credibility and rapport with senior leadership

* Experience leading and scaling operations in AWS/ Cloud digital environments

Salary Range: $187,000.00 - $280,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
