Armament Systems specializes in the development and production of Ammunition, Guns, and Precision Guidance Ordinance.
Location:
This position requires on-site support. The selected candidate will need to be within commuting distance to our site in Plymouth, MN. Relocation assistance may be available if the selected candidate is not local.
Position Summary / Responsibilities:
The Engineering Manager II reports to the LCA Senior Engineering Manager and manages specific LCA engineering activities across the business portfolio which includes 120mm and 105mm ammunition. The LCA Engineering Manger II leads a small and diverse team that supports ongoing LCA production programs, proposal efforts for new business, and the development of future LCA production capabilities. This position will provide functional management leadership, team building, transition to production, and manufacturing engineering expertise in the production of advanced large caliber ammunition. The person filling this position must hae an extensive background in functional leadership and understand a wide variety of manufacturing processes (e.g. hydraulic/pneumatic presses, CNC machining, tooling, inspection equipment, injection molding, metal fabrication, etc.) and have experience in transition to production environment.
Typical Duties:
Provide guidance and feedback to a diverse group of engineers on complex technical challenges.
Demonstrate project management skills, including work breakdown structures, integrated master scheduling, and earned value management.
Coach and motivate the engineering team to ensure high performance. Develop and maintain succession plans and lead recruitment efforts to build a highly skilled team.
Align hiring plans, staff development, and workload strategies with overall capability goals. Manage team budgets, schedules, and resources to meet business objectives.
Set and promote high standards for quality and safety, ensuring that team output adheres to technical standards.
Stay updated on engineering best practices and technology innovations through participation in industry events and educational activities.
Represent and communicate Defense Systems technical capabilities to both internal and external customers.
Lead performance and compensation management activities for team members.
Review and approve cost estimates and written technical proposals. Manage costs and schedules for independent research or process improvement projects assigned to the team.
Advise stakeholders and team members on meeting established schedules and resolving technical issues.
Ensure team members are knowledgeable about and utilize required engineering processes and tools.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 4 years of experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience as a functional manager, with a track record of leading, evaluating, and developing team members.
Proven experience in mentoring, leading, and coaching within a professional environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team to successful product delivery.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited university.
Over 5 years of experience as a functional manager, leading, evaluating, and developing team members.
5+ years of experience in medium and/or large caliber ammunition production and/or development.
Familiarity with production programs, including process and variation control methods.
Experience in managing ammunition development and qualification programs.
Knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001, CMMI, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
Proven experience in Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
Strong project management experience.
Experience collaborating with suppliers and procurement to enhance quality and optimize schedules.
Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
