This role focuses on equipment support, new project (capital) implementation and process improvements over typical manufacturing line and product support. The ideal candidate will have experience in manufacturing with the ability to create detailed work instructions, troubleshoot equipment failures, lead projects from start to finish, and provide work direction to technicians.

Our Elk River site consists of a serene 3,200 acres, with over 20 active buildings, and numerous projects supporting development, manufacturing and testing for Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems Division. Our Manufacturing Engineering team works to continuously improve, support, and maintain manufacturing activities of Medium Caliber Ammunition and Warhead production through a variety of self-directed daily tasks and larger team projects. This role supports 1st shift operations on a 4/10 schedule.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Identification of equipment and / or process improvements to increase overall capability through functional understanding of the products designed and produced on site.
Lead and coordinate equipment / capital projects from inception through implementation. Typical project stages include:
Identification of requirements from stake holders.
Creating detailed statements of work for outside vendors.
Knowledge and research of suitable market options and vendors.
Leading design efforts, down selecting manufactures and/or working with drafting to document designs.
Holding design reviews to ensure product design is in compliance with engineering principles, company standards, regulations and related specifications.
Working with Safety to complete hazard analysis and perform safety design reviews.
Coordinating equipment install, setup and operational verifications.
Draft and releasing initial work instructions.
Retention and release of equipment documentation, drawings, part numbers and preventative maintenance plans.
Budget monitoring and trend tracking.

Act as a liaison engineer interface between onsite Manufacturing activities and offsite Development / Product Engineering teams. Standard work may consist of:
Performing Basis of Estimate's documenting and explaining how a cost estimate for project or product was developed.
Leading daily or weekly meetings to communicate manufacturing issues, design requirements, equipment capability and other day to day activities.
Assisting with technical disposition of non-conforming product for internal or external sources.
Development and release of assembly work instructions based on Program design requests.
Ensuring incoming work requests are complete, accurate and consistent.
Budget monitoring and trend tracking.

Act as a project manager to coordinate internal functional disciplines including Program Personnel, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Test and LAP (Manufacturing) Technicians.
Perform process failure investigations to determine where the process breaks down, brainstorm and propose process improvements, and implement procedural updates to prevent future failures.
Applies knowledge of engineering and scientific methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation of technical problems and implementation of appropriate automation solutions.
Please note this position may be filled as a level 2 or level 3 salary grade depending on the candidate's education and/or years of experience.
Basic Qualifications

Qualifications for Energetics Manufacturing Engineer (Level 2)
BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical or related Engineering field plus 2+ years of experience with Manufacturing of mechanical devices, systems and automation

Qualifications for Principal Energetics Manufacturing Engineer (Level 3)
BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical or related Engineering field plus 2+ years of experience with Manufacturing of mechanical devices, systems and automation;
or Master's degree plus 3 years of experience with Manufacturing of mechanical devices, systems and automation.

US Citizenship
Valid driver's license
Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance
Demonstrated experience in:
manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or automated systems.
troubleshooting and investigation of equipment and process failures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the following:
in a regulated industry (Defense, Medical, etc.).
with equipment verification and validation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
product design verification, inspection and non-conformance handling protocols.
drafting hazard analysis, risk assessments and / or PFMEA.
with hazardous materials or environments, specifically energetic and explosive materials

Competencies:

Interpersonal communication with a customer service focus is a must. This position requires working with end users to determine user requirements, collaborating with other departments to get buy in and safety approval. Must be able to present and communicate ideas to larger groups to identify problems, solutions, communicate impacts, and remain agile on timelines.
Self-motivated and self-directed. Establishes ownership and pride in their work, with the ability to operate independently with limited supervision to seek results through challenging projects.
Strong time management skills with proven proficiency multitasking and effectively prioritizing work assignments. Candidate will be responsible for and managing multiple projects at various stages of implementation that all need to continue to move forward.
Resilience, able to work with peers and avoid putting up defenses, work through technical and political roadblocks, navigate numerous regulations, survive and help improve the current environment.
Need to be well organized with attention to detail. Possess the ability to clearly retain and document information while effectively leading meetings.
Technical understanding of mechanical mechanisms, hydraulic systems, manufacturing processes, metal coatings, heat treatments and processing technologies, and standard assembly processes.
Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including MS Project

Work Environment

Exposure to energetic and explosive materials.
Exposure to heavy equipment (milling, machine, pressing, etc.)
Must wear proper PPE (conductive shoes, steel toe shoes, safety glasses) when leaving operations building.
* 4/10 Work Shift Monday thru Thursday from 6:00am - 4:30pm
Salary Range: $85,400.00 - $128,000.00Salary Range 2: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
