Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems (MS) Sector is seeking an Industrial Controls Engineer for Operations Manufacturing. This position focuses on automated control systems used in electronics and mechanical m anufacturing, assembly, and packaging.

The Industrial Controls Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined below:

Process Development
  • Development, continuous improvement and maintenance of data , OT and controls systems for new and existing manufacturing processes in our microelectronics, surface mount technology printed circuit board and machining technology
  • Creation and management of OT and controls project plans (tasks, resources, schedules) for automation development activities
  • Development and evaluation of vendor equipment statements of work, quotes, designs, installation, and facility testing to meet Mission Systems Automation and Enterprise Software Platform ( PLM/ERP/ MES / Mfg Bus ) requirements
  • Integration to Mission Systems MES to maximize product traceability and data analysis
  • Design , development, and procurement of custom manufacturing control systems
  • Development of control logic, wiring, and human-machine interface for ease of use and troubleshooting
  • Development and design of control/electrical panel layouts with tight integrations to custom e quipment, conveyors and robotic
  • Evaluation and test of equipment communication and data transfer with internal networks
  • Review of manual test fixtures for higher volume products to identify and implement automation opportunities
  • Development and documentation of manufacturing equipment interface guidelines
Factory Support
  • Maintain equipment-monitoring systems for machine uptime, efficiency, quality , process stability and capability
  • Recommend and implement controls, sensors, electromechanical and/or auto mation improvements
  • Development , validat ion , and maintenance of automation and controls systems equipment, program ming, and data transfer systems
  • Create new training material s and teach new personnel on training materials
  • Solve manufacturing problems related to sensors, robots, motion, vision, equip ment, data promptly
  • Support fa ctory maintenance personnel with the troubleshooting and repair of process equipment
The chosen candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment; and work well as part of a team. Travel for this job will be approximately one week every other month (6 weeks per year).

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience (0 years with a Master's)
  • Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLC's) (Examples: Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron and Beckhoff)
  • Experience programming PLC's per IEC 61131-3 (Examples: ladder logic, function block diagram and structured text)
  • Familiarity with some of these -RSLogix, Step 7, CX-One, TwinCAT, Labview and/or Wonderware software
  • Experience sending PLC data to servers (Examples: Open Platform Communications (OPC), OPC Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) and Structured Query Language (SQL) servers)
  • Familiarity with motion controllers, solenoids, conveyors, servos, actuators and other pneumatic/electromechanical systems
  • Experience in developing controls design with AutoCAD Electrical; with a concentration on wiring, panel footprint layout, pneumatic schemes, and networking
  • Fluency in MS Office software applications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship is required.)
  • Ability to travel approximately one week every other month.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as an electronics technician
  • Electrical Engineering degree
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience with machine vision systems and barcode readers (Cognex, Keyence, and Fanuc)
  • Familiarity with varying process sensors for environment, motion, measurement and presence (Banner, Sick, Allen-Bradley, Keyence, Omron)
  • Familiarity with programming and hardware architecture of Siemens Controls, HMI environments.
  • Experience with programming gantry, articulating, and SCARA robots
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing automation, conveyors and equipment in a high-volume environment
  • Familiarity with RIA TR R15.406-2014 and OSHA equipment safety standards
  • Knowledge of electronic electrostatic discharge (ESD) and contamination damage
  • Experience networking supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), controllers and servers via Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus or equivalent Fieldbus protocols
  • Familiarity with programming and hardware architecture of networking processes such as Manufacturing Service Bus Integration (Kepware, PAC, Pco), MES integration, IIoT 4.0 communications (CFX) and "Edge Computing"

Salary Range: $83,300 - $124,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
