The Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) Systems Engineering Product Development Team is seeking a dynamic and experienced System Architecture and Integration Consultant to support the development of cutting-edge missile defense technology in part time capacity.
This is an on-call casual employee opportunity. No relocation provisions are available.
The successful candidate will play a key role in defining architecture, coordinating system integration, and ensuring alignment with program goals and mission requirements. This position requires deep technical expertise, innovative thinking, and collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver state-of-the-art solutions for hypersonic missile defense systems.
Key Responsibilities:
System Architecture Design: Develop and document high-level system architectures, incorporating hardware, software, communication interfaces, and subsystems for Glide Phase Interceptor capabilities.
Requirements Management: Support the decomposition, allocation, and traceability of top-level requirements using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
System Integration: Lead system integration efforts across hardware, software, guidance, control, and propulsion subsystems, ensuring compatibility and functional performance.
Trade Studies: Conduct system-level trade studies to evaluate design alternatives, technologies, and integration strategies for performance, cost, and risk optimization.
Interface Management: Define and manage interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure consistency and seamless interoperability across GPI components and external systems.
Verification and Validation: Collaborate with test teams to establish integration and validation plans, analyze results, and verify that systems meet performance objectives.
Risk Assessment: Identify technical risks related to architecture and integration, propose mitigation strategies, and drive solutions to reduce impact on project schedules and deliverables.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Interface with program stakeholders, including program management, customers, and engineering teams, to ensure alignment of architecture and integration activities with overall program goals.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and deliver technical documentation, presentations, and progress updates to stakeholders and leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
16+ Years with Bachelors in Science; 14+ Years with Masters; 12+ Years with PhD.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of
application, current and within scope
Minimum of 16 years of experience in systems architecture, systems engineering, and/or system integration for complex systems (defense-related).

Strong understanding of missile defense systems, hypersonic technologies, or related disciplines.
Experience with creating architecture models using tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, or similar MBSE platforms.
Experience with architecture frameworks such as DoDAF, TOGAF, or SysML.
Background in system integration involving hardware, software, sensing technologies, and data interfaces.
Strong knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS or equivalent) and requirements traceability practices.
Knowledge of system verification and validation practices, including test planning and execution.
Exceptional problem-solving abilities and analytical skills, with a strong aptitude for tackling complex technical challenges.
Effective communication and presentation skills to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience with missile defense systems or hypersonic product development (e.g., MDA programs or related technology areas).
Familiarity with Glide Phase Interceptor programs or other missile defense constructs.
Advanced knowledge of guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems.
Certification in systems engineering (e.g., INCOSE CSEP), enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF), or program management (e.g., PMP).
Experience working in Agile development environments and familiarity with DevSecOps practices.
Knowledge of emerging technologies such as advanced sensors, AI/ML, or edge computing.
Primary Level Salary Range: $1.00 - $1.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
