Position Description:

As a Test Engineer, the work activities will include supporting a variety of programs and projects across the Engineering and Co-Production Organization. The employee will be part of a Ballistic Test Engineering Team for planning, execution/training, and summary reporting of development phases of testing for a variety of munition programs and projects.
Works closely with the existing systems engineering and Quality Management System (QMS)processes to ensure proper rigor and technical acumen is applied throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Oversee/operate/perform tests with many different types of cannon caliber gun systems, environmental testing, and warhead testing.
Ability to work collaboratively with Engineers, Production Control, and Test Technicians in a fast-paced environment.
Generate Detailed Operating Procedures for test technicians that allow them to safely and effectively conduct testing.
Manage test schedules and provide cost estimating figures to programs and be accountable for these schedules and costs provided.
Aid in development/procurement of test equipment and test range setups.
Presents work products at program reviews, proposals, or other project meetings.
Prepares and plans cost estimates and written technical proposals.
Acts as a technical interface to external customers, and forms working relationships with representatives of external technical organizations.
Will involve sometimes stepping into other roles when needed.
Travel up to 50% domestic and internationally to customers and suppliers. During implementation phase, travel may consist of up to 30 consecutive days at a time.
Responsibilities include:

Establish equipment Bill of Materials (BOMs), aid in ordering and build processes, and assist installation and commissioning of equipment to outfit new or updated facilities.
Operates and troubleshoots systems such as ballistic data acquisition systems; high energy detonation systems; virtual scoring systems, radars, and high-speed cameras .
Installs and troubleshoots transducers and ballistic data acquisition systems by interpreting ballistic test data.
Processes the data according to well-defined methods and designated formulas.
Plans how to accomplish assignments in the most efficient and economical manner, according to a test plan, test procedure, reference documents, and precedents.
Communicating issues and status frequently and effectively both verbally and in writing
Requires extensive regular contact with assigned project customers, both internal and external.
Participating in customer meetings and resolving engineering and management project issues.
Generate and maintain lists of open issues and diligently track them to resolution.
Perform failure analysis of physical and functional test results when results do not meet requirements.
Please note this position may be filled as a Ballistic Test/Mechanical Engineer (level 2), or Principal Ballistic Test/Mechanical Engineer (level 3) depending on the candidate's education and/or years of experience.
Basic Qualifications for Ballistic Test/Mechanical Engineer (Level 2)

Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline plus 2 years of relevant Test/Mechanical Engineering experience; or master's degree plus 0 experience.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Ballistic Test/Mechanical Engineer (Level 3)

Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline plus 5 years of relevant Test/Mechanical Engineering experience; or master's degree plus 3 experience; or PhD plus 0 experience
Preferred Qualifications:

5 years of relevant professional experience
Experience in a ballistic test environment.
Familiarity with Test Equipment, Associated Tooling
Familiarity with Energetics
Familiarity with Guns and/or Cannons
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
* Fluency in MS Office software applications
Primary Level Salary Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
