The Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to make athletes measurably better. We deliver validated insights and innovative capabilities to drive the future of Nike products and services. The Field Services team in the NSRL creates and applies knowledge of human movement to help everyday athletes out in the world move better through guidance services. You'll report to the Director of Field Services and within the NSRL, you'll partner closely with science, service, and technology experts to design and implement innovative systems that continue to cement the reputation of Nike as a leader in sports science and athlete guidance.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This unique role is at the forefront of shaping the future of athlete data capture at Nike through cutting-edge technology. You will create, deliver, refine, and test integrated systems (including hardware and software) to enable science-based services that help athletes
of all levels improve performance and protection as they move. You will partner with the science (biomechanics, physiology), data science, operations, technology and networking experts to bring meaningful, scalable experiences to life. You will implement new technologies, participate in solution design and architecture discussions. You will have outstanding communication skills, proven system design expertise and implementation capabilities, with a strong eye for business, and a drive to deliver results. You will be technically proficient and excel at collaborating with engineers, analysts, and business partners. You will understand athlete and business needs, translate them into potential technology needs, create prototypes and work to test, refine, and scale them. You will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, and will enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, and training
  • A minimum of 10 years directly relevant work experience
  • Experience in software, hardware, and manufacturing related fields
  • Mastery of systems engineering including camera vision software and hardware, mobile app configuration with management via mobile device management systems, core database, scripting and system level utilities.
  • Mastery of hardware configuration and builds, concept prototyping, digital design, fabrication, and retail installation.
  • Testing and validation experience to ensure system robustness and reliability.
  • Experience managing interdisciplinary teams to deliver projects and/or products on aggressive timelines.
  • A proven track record of leading successful engineering projects from concept to completion as a strong team player and successful collaborator.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a track record of mentoring and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • A passion for innovation and staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

As Principal System Engineer you will design and build complex athlete-sensing systems and computer hardware integration, including vision-based and wearable systems, for use in high-profile programs. These systems can exist in a variety of contexts and environments including research labs, retail environments, in the field, and temporary installations. You'll ensure that these systems function to reach research and athlete engagement goals and evolve the system as technology advances.

  • You will lead all aspects of system engineering, including early concept, prototyping, and testing to fabricating, deployment and installation within retail, concept, brand, and research spaces.
  • Conduct key project management activities including stand-ups, risk/issue dentification/mitigation, action tracking, and milestone/deliverable planning/tracking in alignment with organizational standards. Coordinate all of this across cross-functional teams of engineers, technical product managers, data science, biomechanics, fabrication, and networking contacts.
  • You'll manage day-to-day relationships with stakeholders, technical teams and external development partners.
  • You will provide thought leadership across the Nike Sport Research Lab and Nike in these areas of subject matter expertise, coaching and mentoring others to enable the collective team to succeed.
  • You'll lead work to refine and scale system offerings in partnership with teams across Nike, while also exploring and piloting new concepts.
