WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You will work closely with other process innovators assisting in the lab. You will work with cushioning engineers and developers on different platform teams and may attend key project meetings to report findings or ideate on approaches to method of make. You will occasionally engage with our Air MI partners and various external vendors or suppliers.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a curious and creative individual with a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics with a passion for learning. Ideally someone with a background in polymers, machinery or testing that likes to work with their hands to create and test new concepts. This is a hands-on role that enables the development of new methods of make while supporting research and development of product innovations in our established manufacturing methods.

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience or training
  • A minimum of 2 years directly relevant work experience
  • Comfortable running complex machinery with high regard to safety and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Proficient in common computer software and ability to learn new digital tools
  • Basic understanding of 2-D and 3-D design (Illustrator / Rhino or equivalent)
  • Advanced understanding in prototype manufacturing / sample creation
  • Systematic and creative problem-solving skills
  • Able to work on several projects and support multiple teams.
  • Can work independently to investigate and find multiple solutions to a problem.
  • Comfortable communicating and presenting work weekly to small and large teams.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use manual tools throughout the day
  • Will be working in a lab/prototype manufacturing environment
  • Physical Demands: 30% sitting; 70% standing/walking / hands on sample creation; ability to lift 30 lbs.

Preferred

  • Experience in polymer processing methods (e.g. thermoforming, RF welding, extrusion, injection, etc.)
  • Experience with statistical process development principals and design of experiments
  • Basic understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, electromechanical and thermal systems
  • Basic understanding of machinery control systems and troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of plastic part and tooling design
  • Footwear knowledge

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

If this is you, you'll be working in the Cushioning Innovation Process Team across various laboratories. You will operate complex machinery and assist with troubleshooting and development of equipment. You will run various test equipment to confirm quality specifications, enable process development and validate new concepts.

Every day brings something new and ranges from large sample runs while maintaining quality standards, machinery setup/cleanup, design reviews, general lab operations, mechanically testing concepts and brainstorming creative solutions. Most days are a mix of activities and requires changing hats or ways of thinking throughout the day.

  • You have the ability to work independently operating equipment in a test lab and manufacturing like environment with a high regard for safety.
  • You have good written and oral communication, high attention to detail, good mechanical aptitude, and apply systematic problem-solving skills.
  • You are comfortable with a level of ambiguity or uncertainty and driven to discover the unknown.
