User Experience Engineer

San Francisco, CA

Niantic's ARUX team is looking for a UX Engineer to explore, prototype, and build the future of location based, AR powered experiences. Niantic ARUX works with some of the world's most advanced AR technologies to design visually innovative, ground breaking mobile experiences for tens of millions of users worldwide, encouraging discovery, exercise, and substantial social experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype location-based AR experiences to demonstrate new UX concepts and inform product direction.
  • Build and maintain reusable UX components that are used across internal and external projects.
  • Perform design research and provide recommendations on new AR capabilities.
  • Support prototyping of new use-cases identified by UX on mobile and wearable devices.
  • Coordinate with UX Research on user studies of prototypes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
  • Required in-office 2 days on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, design, or a related field
  • 2+ experience contributing code to a shipping product or production experiences.
  • Solid understanding of C#.
  • Experience working with Unity or a similar game/AR engine in a production environment.
  • Experience working with AR, VR, XR, or Spatial Computing.
  • Strong understanding of UX/UI principles and processes.
  • Portfolio featuring examples of prototyping work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice. 
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.

Plus if...

  • Knowledge of git or other source control systems.
  • Shader and/or Javascript development experience.
  • Experience working with UXR.
  • Experience with Figma, and/or doing UXD.
  • Experience with Unity UI system.
  • Experience building prototypes in short timeframes.
  • Native development for Android or iOS in Swift, Kotlin, C++, etc.

The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $145,800 - $162,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
