Job Summary

The Switch Commodity Manager at NetApp is critical in impacting NetApp's gross margin performance and influencing NetApp's storage technology roadmap and sourcing strategies. In this role with high executive visibility, the Switch commodity manager will lead the procurement of one of NetApp's strategic spend commodities. The Switch Commodity Manager will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain and Finance teams to generate sourcing/procurement strategies aligned to NetApp's broader corporate goals while considering the complex dynamics related to the networking market and supply base.

The Switch Commodity Manager will:

  • Lead the overall general management of the SAN FibreChannel and Ethernet cluster switch commodities; including owning the supplier relationships, developing the sourcing strategies, and executing the daily and cyclical operational activities entailed with these commodities.
  • Drive continued lowest total cost for switches to achieve year over year margin improvements and ensure highest supplier performance through structured scorecards and business reviews.
  • Build and manage existing and new strategic supplier relationships to achieve healthy partnerships, early technology access, strategic pricing and business terms, high priority, and mindshare.
  • Work cross-functionally within NetApp and with our suppliers to drive leading edge roadmap alignment, RFPs, product support, qualifications, continued process improvements, and ensure NetApp releases new products both on time and competitively.
  • Work closely with Product Management and Engineering to influence design decisions to meet technical capabilities, risk mitigation needs, business objectives, and to align with strategy.

Job Requirements

  • Establishing the Sourcing Strategy to guide the company-wide sourcing decisions for switches.
  • Leading the cross functional commodity management team; reviewing, tracking, and driving decisions for those items as they pertain to the switch business.
  • Relentless focus on price/COGs reductions (gross margin protection), continuity of supply, cost avoidance, and lowest total cost of ownership
  • Experience with all commercial items with your suppliers and components they sell NetApp: Price, T&Cs, MOQs, Lead Times, SMI, all contracts/agreements, performance, and negotiations.
  • Supplier relationship management: regular business reviews, executive scorecards, roadmap interlocks, etc.
  • Experience in procurement for a technology company or account management/marketing working for a leading networking company.
  • The ideal candidate is strong analytically, is a master negotiator, possesses effective communication skills and works well under pressure.
  • Proven track record of complex problem solving that required strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Monthly tracking and reporting on cost savings status and projections.
  • Quarterly pricing activity and maintenance to support processes.

Education & Experience

• Typically requires 12 years' relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement or Engineering equivalent technical degree. An advanced degree or MBA is preferred.

The base salary hiring wage range for this position which the Company reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position in the specified geographic areas or locations, is [$162,270] - [$228,030]. Final compensation will be dependent on various factors relevant to the position and candidate such as geographical location, candidate qualifications, certifications, relevant job-related work experience, education, skillset and other relevant business and organizational factors, consistent with applicable law. In addition, the position may include some of the following comprehensive benefits such Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, 401(K), Paid Time off (PTO), sick time, leave of absence as per the FMLA and other relevant leave laws, Company bonus/commission, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU's).
