Training Consultant (Property & Casualty Claims - Garage Auto)

This Training Consultant will join our Claims Training team, focusing on Material Damage Claims / Garage Repair, and hired in a work-from-home (WFH) capacity but must be within a commutable distance to the Training Center in Lewis Center, OH for when in-person class is in session.

This role will include a large focus on technical training as it relates to a hands-on approach for vehicle estimating, repair and bodywork. Training will be done in both in-person and virtual capacities, and the selected individual must be comfortable with the respective technology used for virtual trainings. In addition to training duties & responsibilities, this person will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with vendors that provide the respective equipment/materials for training, and maintaining any required certifications to use the respective equipment/materials.

Due to the niche focus of training this individual will create and conduct, the most ideal candidate will possess the below areas of knowledge, experience, training, and certifications/designations:

Technical Knowledge / Experience / Training:

Cosmetic:

  • Basic principles of repair vs replace decision
  • Knowledge of both R&I and Masking operations
  • Able to perform cosmetic repair to sheet metal panel
  • Able to refinish panel with today’s basecoat/clear coat system
  • Able to demonstrate basic wiring repairs
  • Able to repair different types of damage to plastic components

Structural:

  • Basic knowledge of types of structural damage
  • Able to analyze structural damage using:
  • ...... a) different visual indicators
  • ...... b) mechanical measuring system
  • ...... c) electronic measuring system
  • Knowledge and experience to make various structural repairs on frame / unibody equipment
  • Understand the need to consult OE Repair information for certain structural repairs
  • MIG Welding experience (able to perform various welds such as plug welds, overlap, open butt and butt joint with backer)

Mechanical:

  • Able to explain the basic angles involved in suspension geometry.
  • Identify various types of suspension damage
  • Knowledgeable of various suspension designs
  • Knowledgeable to various steering designs
  • Knowledge of various advanced electronic systems:
  • ......a) Anti-lock brakes
  • ......b) Electronic Stability Control
  • ......c) Traction Control
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems on today’s vehicles:
  • ......a) Heating & Cooling
  • ......b) Air Conditioning
  • ......c) Lighting Systems
  • Basic knowledge of Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Certifications and Designations:

  • I-CAR Platinum certification
  • ASE certification  
  • Other trade certifications (ie: Paint, Welding, etc.)

As a Consultant, you'll conduct advanced-level technical training classes and programs based on in-depth technical knowledge. You will act as a resource or subject matter expert to trainers and specialists for the design of training programs or projects. You'll be the highest level technical professional, where mastery of subject matter and most advanced skills are required to impact the organization.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts sophisticated technical skills classes, courses and programs. May also conduct other lower level courses as needed. Schedules training courses and enrolls associates. Serves as a back-up to other instructors.

  • Provides continuous evaluation of responses and feedback relative to program development, administration and logistics.

  • Reviews course content and makes recommendations for improvements, modifications or continuation based on expertise. May also consult on development of materials.

  • Crafts the appropriate learning experience by researching standard methodologies in advanced technical areas to incorporate into class discussions or to adjust presentation materials. May provide basic needs analysis and process improvement consulting for assigned business units.

  • Serves as liaison to various Nationwide task forces based on subject matter expertise and projects as assigned.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to business unit Manager, Director or Executive or Learning and Performance Manager or Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree desired. Prefer adult education-related field or progress toward advanced degree in a related field.

License/Designation/Certification: Certification in recognized field of expertise (CPCU, AIC, API, AU, etc.) desired. In some business units there may be additional regulatory requirements for specific certifications (i.e., FINRA series in Nationwide Financial). Progress towards learning certificate such as CPLP desired.

Experience: Typically requires 10 or more years of experience in area of technical expertise. Additional experience in project leadership, supervisory or adult learning desired.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Subject matter authority related to training area of responsibility with broad technical knowledge beyond area of expertise. Exceptional understanding of adult education concepts, learning styles, evaluation methods and process/workflow development. Strong instructional design and eye for business. Excellent communication skills. Proven track record to explain sophisticated technical concepts and to analyze program results and recommend solutions. Strong group dynamics and interactive skills. Strong project management and consulting skills. Ability to set priorities, manage time, prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
