As a Senior Consultant, you’ll direct national sales, revenue achievement and retention for Nationwide Stop Loss Direct product. You will be responsible for overseeing strategic partnerships with exclusive and agency distribution channels and Nationwide Partners. You’ll drive sales performance in support of Nationwide Specialty Insurance (NSI) strategic business goals.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Sets strategic direction for the NSI Stop Loss Direct organization to align with overall NSI business goals. Responsible for overall revenue growth and retention.

  • Responsible for the growth, profitability and management of national accounts. 

  • Markets and sells products and services to new channel distribution partners, including external and internal Nationwide partners and to new prospective employer groups. 

  • Attends and participates in joint or industry wide conferences to promote sales within the region.

  • Creates and analyzes monthly, quarterly and annual sales reports.

  • Directs the communication of sales targets and other sales related information to enhance sales and marketing efforts.

  • Manages the budgets of the assigned sales and marketing functional areas.

  • Develops and implements annual sales plans, sales promotion programs and compensation and incentive plans.

  • Directs the establishment of policies, procedures and workflow processes to support staffing levels.  

  • May be responsible for associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement and disciplinary actions, as needed.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to leader and may lead small team of professionals. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:  

Education: Undergraduate studies in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance or related field. 

License/Certification/Designation: Life and Health license required. Professional insurance designations preferred but not required. 

Experience: 10 years of sales experience in related product lines with proven track record in sales achievement to similar market targets. 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of sales techniques that include virtual and in person sales meetings and presentations. Strong product knowledge. In-depth understanding of stop loss policies/products and underwriting practices. Knowledge of the phases and aspects of business marketing.  Proven knowledge of the distribution channels and key stakeholders in the healthcare industry. Ability to see opportunity in the marketplace and assist the company in being ahead of the curve. Proven analytical and planning skills. Effective communication skills. Ability to create and deliver detailed sales presentations. Ability to negotiate positive outcomes for all parties/stakeholders in the potential relationship. Ability to discover/prospect through cold calling, generate leads and close the sale. Ability to balance strategic direction with tactical execution. Ability to build effective working relationships with internal business partners, as well as brokers, consultants, and other key industry stakeholders and influencers.  Ability to multi-task and build collaborative internal relationships.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
