The Conversational AI & UI team supporting Nationwide Digital Assistants (Nationwide Chatbot & Alexa) is in search of a highly motivated Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, has a passion for innovation, and can leverage their experience to help upskill team members to achieve their true potential.

In this role, you’ll be operating in a product model alongside a team of talented engineers and partnering with product and UX designers to prioritize and deliver new features in an agile environment. Our team is looking for someone who has a natural curiosity to continually improve their craft and enjoys sharing knowledge with the team. Nationwide Digital continues to innovate for the future which will provide you with a place to speak freely, make mistakes, and provide opinions without fear of reprisal while allowing you to reach your fullest potential. Desired Technical Qualifications:

  • Extensive TypeScript/JavaScript, React & Node.js knowledge
  • Extensive Experience with API Development (Apigee or other API Management platforms a plus)
  • Exposure to Bot Framework or Natural Language Processing
  • Experience designing applications through all stages of the lifecycle
  • Azure Cloud Platform Knowledge
    • Azure Resource Manager (ARM) Templates (or other Infrastructure-as-code toolsets such as Terraform)
    • Azure Infrastructure
    • Cosmos DB
  • Azure DevOps
    • CI/CD Pipelines & Deployments
    • YAML templates
  • HTML/CSS or Web Development knowledge
  • Poly-skilling within an Agile Team
  • Experience with Ruby/Cucumber (Not required but a plus)

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. 

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
