The Conversational AI & UI team supporting Nationwide Digital Assistants (Nationwide Chatbot & Alexa) is in search of a highly motivated Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, has a passion for innovation, and can leverage their experience to help grow the team.

In this role, you’ll be operating in a product model alongside a team of talented engineers and partnering with product and UX designers to prioritize and deliver new features in an agile environment. Desired Technical Qualifications:

  • TypeScript/JavaScript, React & Node.js knowledge
  • Extensive Experience with API Development (Apigee or other API Management platforms a plus)
  • Cloud Platform Knowledge (Azure preferred but not required)
  • HTML/CSS or Web Development knowledge
  • Poly-skilling within an Agile Team
  • Experience with Ruby/Cucumber (Not required but a plus)
  • Bot Framework or Natural Language Processing (Preferred but not required)

This role may be filled at a different level depending on skills an experience.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and best practices.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Adopts continuous improvement and learning.

  • Handles project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. 

Experience: One or more years of technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency of at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, etc. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus. 

Other criteria, such as competencies and experiences, may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Director and HR Officer.
