POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Research Associate works under the guidance of a Manager/Senior Scientist /Scientist to execute verification and validation (V&V) studies, under design control, for next generation sequencing (NGS) assays to support regulatory submissions. Works hands-on at the bench to carry out experiments and studies with minimal guidance

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • • Executes complex laboratory experiments (V&V) in collaboration with Senior Scientists/Scientist; responsible for the day to day running of experiments and data tracking and data analysis.

• Performs experiments, as directed, using appropriate procedural and documentation methods under design control.

• Ensure technical activities are conducted following Natera's Quality Management System and aligned with broader regulatory requirements (CAP/CLIA/FDA).

• Assists in preparation of documents including SOPs, experimental plans, protocols, and reports to document results and scientific interpretations using GDP.

• Contribute insight toward experimental findings and troubleshoot laboratory procedures and protocols.

• Communicate and discuss results with a multidisciplinary team including biodevelopment, bioinformatics, and biostatistics.

• Summarize work in laboratory meeting presentations.

• Perform basic data analysis (e.g. JMP, Excel)

• Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.

• Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.

• Employee must pass a post offer criminal background check.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • • B.S. degree in molecular biology, related field, or equivalent.

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience in an assay development department.

    • Extensive hands-on experience with nucleic acid techniques (DNA manipulation, PCR, nucleic acid purification, gel electrophoresis, analysis tools and instrumentation, DNA quantitation, and quality control).

    • Experience with Next Generation Sequencing techniques and protocols with emphasis on process development and optimization of diagnostic assays in a CLIA or FDA regulated laboratory environment, preferred.

    • Experience in adapting, troubleshooting, and validating assays.

    • Experience in basic statistical analysis; working knowledge of JMP is a plus; database experience and programming is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • • Experience with development, and implementation of clinical laboratory tests under CAP/CLIA or FDA regulated environments is highly desired.

    • Hands-on experience with Illumina NGS workflow including DNA extraction, library preparation, target enrichment, and sequencing a plus.

    • Hands-on experience with automated laboratory instrumentation such as liquid handlers.

    • Experience with the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of NGS assay protocols a plus.

    • Experience with design control and change control.

    • Strong data analysis skills.

    • Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and priorities.

    • Strong and effective communication skills, including writing protocols and summarizing results in a report or presentation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Duties are typically performed in a laboratory setting.
  • This position requires the ability to perform repetitive motions during pipetting and samples processing.
  • This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over zoom/telephone and read printed material.
  • Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times.
