POSITION SUMMARY

Natera is seeking a highly motivated senior data scientist to join our rapidly growing company. As a member of the data group you will participate in the design and prototyping of cutting edge algorithms for analysis of genetic and clinical data. You will perform data analysis, algorithm design, contribute to our intellectual property portfolio, and interact closely with R&D and product teams to define the requirements and improve the products and processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in research efforts into building probabilistic models for next generation sequence platforms

• Leverage accurate probability models to build the next round of algorithms and products

• Move products through the full development process, from research through commercial launch

• Contribute to our intellectual property portfolio

• Drive rigorous data analysis effort and support group efforts toward high quality documentation

• Help develop and guide molecular biology experiments

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

• Masters or Ph.D. in quantitative field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or similar)

• Extensive knowledge and practical experience in several of the following areas: machine learning, statistics, deep learning,

• At least five years' experience in data analysis using scripting languages such as Python (could be replaced by extensive experience in a procedural language such as C++)

• Experience in large scale data processing

• Experience with a database query language such as SQL

• Experience with scalable data processing tools (Spark, Dataflow or similar)

• Proven ability to apply mathematical principles to solve real estimation problems and implement practical solutions

• Excellent communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment

• Desire to learn about genetics, sequencing technologies, etc.

Desirable but not required:

• Previous experience in healthcare

• Previous exposure to next-generation sequencing analysis

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Experience in using Python, R in data analysis

• Excellent communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment

• Desire to learn about human genetics and sequencing technologies

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing and walking.
  • Daily use of a computer is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities.
  • The physical demands of the position described herein are essential functions of the job and employees must be able to successfully perform these tasks for extended periods.
