POSITION SUMMARY:

Natera is currently seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join our computational oncology team to make the vision of cancer early detection a reality. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in quantitative biology and algorithm development and should have experience with high-throughput biological data. The individual will develop novel algorithms, provide support for analysis of large and complex genomics data sets generated within the group, and aid with the integration of data between all of the research personnel.

  • Innovate, develop, validate, and benchmark new algorithms and statistical tools for DNA sequencing data analysis to detect tumors earlier
  • Analyze high-throughput DNA sequencing data and work with our team of scientists and statisticians to answer specific biological questions
  • Maintain and improve tools and automated analysis pipelines for diagnostic tests, including variant detection and quality control with appropriate version-controlled software.
  • Contribute to experimental design, quality control, and statistical analysis
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Biochemistry or similar field
  • Proven track-record in Computational Cancer Genomics and Immuno-Oncology by impactful tools or highly cited publications
  • Programming expertise in Java and/or Python
  • Experience with public domain data sources, e.g. dbSNP and TCGA
  • Deep understanding of DNA sequencing data and its analysis (mapping, variant calling, machine learning methods, etc.)
  • Experience using Linux command-line tools, writing shell scripts, version control tools
  • High scientific rigor, critical thinking, self-motivated, detail-oriented, eager to teach and learn new methods
  • Ability to effectively summarize results orally and in written form

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Biochemistry or similar field
  • Experience with data integration and analysis and application of machine learning
  • Experience with Cancer Biology and Immuno-Oncology
  • Experience with public domain data sources, e.g. dbSNP and TCGA
  • Experience with relational databases

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Duties are typically performed in an office setting. This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
