Financial Analyst

San Carlos, CA / Remote

The Financial Analyst of Operations supports the organizations by providing timely, accurate and insightful business expense performance analyses to management specifically related to Lab Operations and Cost of Goods Sold. Gathers, analyzes, prepares, and summarizes recommendations for financial plans, future requirements and operating forecasts. Investigates and prepares monthly results and performance metrics related to the cost of delivering revenue generating products and services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with Cost Accountant and members from Lab Ops team to understand monthly cost drivers
  • Assist in monthly COGs analysis and build up of cost by product line for modeling and long range forecasting.
  • Identify and suggest process improvements to accounting and finance team to streamline monthly cost analysis process
  • Support accounting/cost accounting close process, prepare accruals, and audit reporting
  • Identify and drive implementation of cost reduction and process improvement projects
  • Work closely with Finance Manager to understand and aide in meeting annual financial and corporate goals
  • This role works with PHI on a regular basis both in paper and electronic form and has access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job
  • Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.
  • Employee must pass post offer criminal background check.

  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, related degree, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting experience
  • Excel skills experience is a necessity (pivot tables, VBA macros and Lookup functions)
  • Strong financial systems and business application skills including database applications a plus (Qlikview)
  • Experience with Adaptive Planning or Oracle EPM Cloud (Enterprise Performance Management)/ Hyperion a plus
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and Cost Accounting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on solving moderate to complex financial issues
  • Experience supporting a Biotechnology organization is a plus
  • Experience supporting Operations division in some capacity is preferred
  • Experience with Cost Accounting methodology is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple time sensitive projects, multi-task, identify project interdependencies and potential risks/pitfalls
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality in handling information and issues that arise while staying within defined policies and practices.
  • Collaborative work style, strong service orientation, and ability to effectively respond to and interact with all levels of organizational staff

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position will be remotely located. No current expectation to work in office.
  • This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
  • Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) during busy business seasons, quarter and year end.
