Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of West Coast Tax, will be responsible for the following:

Position can be up to a year, possible temp-perm for the right candidate.

Coordinate with accounting firms and respond to information requests to support tax calculations and filings. Reconcile monthly state tax payments. Assist in reviewing extension workpapers. Assist in responding to notices and audits. Monitor tax filing deadlines and maintain a tax calendar. Provide and collect financial data with general accounting, various business units, and affiliates. Provide intake for tax mailings.

Perform tax research on electronic media such as RIA, CCH, and BNA. Document analysis and findings in written memorandum. Coordinate intercompany tax settlements with officers of multiple affiliated companies. Support tax analysis of new products, geographic expansion, and special projects.

Support financial reporting of taxes including monthly, quarterly, and annual close process. Support regulatory reporting and tax reporting to foreign parent company. Process journal entries related to income tax payments, refunds, and settlement of intercompany taxes. Manage outsourced services including onboarding, changes in statements of work, and payments. Support management of department professional spend budget including monthly accruals and forecasting.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Tax compliance support - review of workpapers, extensions, estimated tax calculations, and original and amended returns.
  • Tax controversy support - managing tax notices, support audit and tax litigation.
  • Tax planning - responsible for gathering tax data for tax initiatives and forecasting state tax impact of geographic expansion, M&A activity, new products and changes in business and federal and state tax law.
  • Tax accounting - responsible for gathering data for state effective tax rate, provision and FIN48 accounting.



Requirements:

  • Requires 2+ years of direct work experience with tax reporting and compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and CPA preferred
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborative with all levels of internal and external personnel.
  • Proficiency with OneSource Tax Provision, and Excel preferred.
  • Proficiency with online research tools RIA, BNA, and CCH preferred.
  • A self-directed approach to dealing with state and local tax compliance issues.
  • Self-motivated for instituting process improvements and acting as an agent of change.
  • Ability to memorialize tax issues, analysis, and conclusions in written memorandum.
  • Ability to work as part of team and share and build on ideas.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $85K - $105K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location.
