Role description
We are looking for a strong technologist and a doer who is willing to lead by example by being hands on every day. This role will be supporting Institutional Securities and Wealth Management brokerage Operations platforms which include diverse technologies hosted by on premises and cloud platforms. The role is expected to perform day to day support for the business alongside reliability engineering tasks. The role has an emphasis on improving the reliability of our systems by working with the Software developers and Infrastructure engineering teams to develop automated reliability solutions. Using automation will help evolve our systems that will increase our velocity in managing uptime and mitigate risk. We are looking for the ideal candidate to improve our codebase in a growing area of the Firm that provides significant potential for career growth for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- 50:50 split of production support and SRE tasks.
- Acting as a buffer between support and development teams to reduce escalations of production issues to development and keep resolution in production management team.
- Day to day support of systems and end users in the Operations department of Morgan Stanley.
- Trouble shooting technical problems on Azure cloud platform and across a distributed Unix environment, or in databases.
- Managing critical incidents and ensuring all key management and business stakeholders are kept up to date.
- Developing code and automation frameworks that enhances our monitoring and measurement capability and eliminates support toil
- Implementing a program of work to establish the System Reliability Engineering practice into the Operations Production Management department
Required experience
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5 - 8 years of Production Management in multiple application support environment as a Level 3 or SRE role on java based applications.
- Experience in supporting an application deployed on Azure Cloud
- Hands-on experience and strong understanding of Azure PaaS services and UNIX / Linux system support.
- Expertise in analyzing, debugging and troubleshooting large-scale distributed applications across multiple layers, i.e. software, Infrastructure and database.
- Software programming experience in any languages like Python, Perl, Java Script .
- Creating stored procedures and optimising SQL in Sybase or DB2.
Desired
- Experience managing, deploying, and troubleshooting, large scale production environments
- Any experience in enterprise monitoring or cloud observability is highly valuable using tools like Azure AppInsights, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, DataDog, Graphana, etc.
- Experience of using and configuring DevOps tooling and Terraform or equivalent.
- Experience of Azure Networks, ServiceBus, Azure Virtual Machines and AzureSQL
- Experience instrumenting application services end point for logging, metrics and events. Should be familiar with design observability principles.
