Senior Platform Engineer - Machine Learning Platforms
We're seeking someone to join our team as a Senior Platform Engineer. As part of Morgan Stanley's Machine Learning Platforms team, you'll work at the intersection of platform engineering, advanced analytics and cloud adoption - delivering the infrastructure that powers mission-critical banking workflows.
In this exciting technology role you'll take part in delivery of the architecture of our MLOps platform and data platform capabilities used across global Banking DRM squads.
We are counting on your inputs to help us shape how the firm moves from prototypes to production-grade data products: designing resilient, distributed data flows that handle petabytes in batch and streaming; defining reproducible model pipelines with strong governance and lineage; and leading cloud adoption patterns across Databricks, Snowflake, Azure and AWS.

This is a Senior Platform Engineering position at Director level focusing on Machine Learning Platforms, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

• Take the spearhead of in your area to design, develop and operationalization of distributed, scalable data flows and applications (batch & real-time)
• This includes a variety of opportunities to work on: services for analytics, model serving, rules engines and user-facing applications (on-prem & cloud).

• Participate in and prototype new technologies and establish repeatable patterns.
• Champion CI/CD, DataOps and MLOps best practices: automated testing, release pipelines, orchestration, monitoring, rollback and disaster recovery.
• Define and implement metrics and observability for data flows, model performance and platform health; proactively optimize for throughput, latency and cost.
• Lead metadata management, data modeling, lineage and governance to ensure reproducibility, auditability and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders (data engineering, strats, ML scientists, product owners, compliance) to translate priorities into deliverables and communicate progress to senior leadership.
• Take part in growing the team: Participate in hiring, mentor and grow engineering talent across multiple continents; set team standards for quality, documentation and secure coding.
• We are counting on you to own strategic direction and roadmap for MLOps and platform capabilities within your domain.
What you'll bring to the role:
• 5+ years building and operating production data platforms: distributed data-driven applications using Spark (Databricks or equivalent), SQL and cloud services.
• Familiarity with ML workflows, feature engineering, model lifecycle and deployment practices.
• Hands-on experience with data ingestion, transformation and storage patterns for batch and streaming.
• Strong proficiency in Python (PySpark), advanced SQL and shell scripting.
• Practical experience with orchestration and workflow tools, CI/CD for data/model pipelines and operational monitoring.
• Solid knowledge of key datastores (HDFS, S3, Snowflake, MongoDB, Splunk or equivalents) and in-memory stores.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery and work independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional stakeholder management.
Nice to have:
• Strong knowledge of Snowflake as SQL platform
• Experience in regulated financial services environments.
• Hands-on experience with feature stores, MLFlow or similar model registries and advanced observability tooling.
• Knowledge of cloud cost optimization, security frameworks and data privacy regulations.
