Role & Team Overview

The Business Control Unit (BCU) within the Fixed Income Division (FID) is the function that manages non-trading risk, including the Division's non-financial risk (NFR). These NFRs include, but are not limited to, operational risk, compliance/conduct, regulatory & audit, sales/product governance, transactional risk.
The BCU's purpose is to engage in the identification, assessment, monitoring, reporting, and mitigation of such risks consistent with Firm guidelines with respect to the legal entities and jurisdictions in which FID operates. The role is expected to provide advice, decision-making and action with respect to certain transactions and other matters that have a relevant FID risk element.

As a front office risk management team, FID BCU partners with our FID business stakeholders, the ISG Central Risk Team, as well as the infrastructure groups and second line control functions to establish and maintain an effective risk management program that is appropriately tailored to FID's risk profile. The team has a global presence including in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

What will you be doing?
The focus is on Fixed Income Non-Financial Risk in Europe, particularly Paris and Frankfurt Fixed Income Sales & Trading activities and European regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with front office trading and sales teams to support business change & optimisation initiatives across Europe, including leading and coordinating their implementation.
• Work with the Head of FID BCU team to identify risks, define controls, implement key non-financial risk metrics and asses the effectiveness of the control environment.
• Support and perform controls owned by first line of defence (Surveillance, Trader Mandates, Unauthorized Trading Controls).
• Contribute to regular updates on the status of risk and controls.
• Contribute to local process analysis and identify ways to improve quality, controls, and efficiency based on understanding & feedback of the trading & sales teams.
• Work with FID local desk managers and 2nd /3rd line of defence partners to resolve risk-related issues.
• Contribute to and co-ordinate cross-functional workstreams related to non-financial risks, as required.

Skills that will help you in the role
• Strong stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience in Business Management, COO functions, or Business Control for front office trading & sales business units.
• Ability to work autonomously, apply critical thinking and result-oriented problem solving.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment.
• A skilled and confident communicator, both written and verbal, with an ability to influence others at all levels.
• Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
• Professionalism, sensitivity, sound judgment and discretion.

Qualifications required:

• Experience in the financial industry either in a business unit (sales, trading, etc.) or 1st Line, regulatory, compliance or other risk management functions. This may include experience in a business unit (e.g. COO, trader, etc.).
• Previous Fixed Income experience a strong benefit.
• Previous experience operating at Associate (as defined by MS) level.
• Bachelor's degree required.
