Team ProfileThe Client Relationship Management (CRM) team is positioned within the distribution (sales and marketing) division and has a global presence with individuals based in multiple locations across the US, EMEA and Asia, including Tokyo. The CRM team collaborates with clients and internal partners to anticipate client needs, solve challenges, and unlock the firm's full capabilities to help them achieve their investment goals. We partner closely with colleagues across the organisation to achieve this and provide governance and oversight for the implementation of all client requirements and related controls, including the onboarding of new accounts. Role Overview:The role will have a primary focus on supporting the Japanese client base alongside sales and managing the coordination and facilitation of onboarding new client accounts. The successful candidate will need to manage the requirements of these client relationships and work with colleagues across multiple functions to meet client requirements in a timely and efficient manner. The individual will need to collaborate with colleagues within Firm management, Sales and the Investment Team to ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed on the status of client matters. The individual will also be responsible for ensuring that administrative matters are adhered to with stringent control and diligence. Key Responsibilities: * Working in partnership with Sales colleagues to support clients with their day to day needs throughout the lifecycle of the relationship * Supporting the resolution of client questions, queries, issues and concerns ensuring effective cross-functional coordination, enabling execution and problem resolution * To assist with the coordination of complex transactions and client requests to ensure that these are completed in an accurate and timely manner * To help coordinate and participate within client meetings, ranging from pitches through to ongoing due diligence * Developing an understanding of MSIM's investment capabilities in order to facilitate client conversations and identify further opportunities for engagement with Sales * Collaborating with internal teams, such as investment specialists, portfolio managers, and operations, to ensure seamless service delivery and client satisfaction * Ownership of Japanese client onboarding and amendment activities for both onshore and offshore contracts. This will require significant levels of both local and global, cross functional interaction to complete contractual, commercial, procedural and regulatory tasks * Delivery of contractual and other documentation to clients and facilitation of responses where required * Coordination and gathering of AML/KYC requirements to meet regulatory obligations for both new business and ongoing 'refreshes', including client outreach * Facilitation of client outreach exercises, for example in the case of regulatory or business notifications (e.g. fund manager relocations) * Support for project initiatives, including the scoping and development of internal/external materials * Collaboration with CRM Governance colleagues to maintain systems and documentation and to ensure the timely and accurate completion of tasks and a clean audit trail. Required Knowledge: * Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in investment management or wealth management at peer firms * Experience dealing directly with clients across multiple sectors including pension schemes and financials * Strong understanding of the asset management industry including knowledge of the Japanese market and related account structures * Good understanding of equity, fixed income and alternative investment products * Clear understanding of the local regulatory environment and ability to apply this to individual client situations and relationships * Experience with client onboarding activities and SMA / intermediary client relationships * Knowledge of the role of broader investment management functions including, but not limited to, Operations, Risk, Legal, Compliance and Surveillance Required Skills and Qualifications: * Excellent Japanese and English verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to interact with clients and stakeholders at all levels and across different time zones/regions/cultures * Ability to negotiate, influence and mediate in complex and challenging situations and an aptitude for managing commercially sensitive situations * Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills * Sound judgment and appreciation of risk * Self-motivated and effective working independently or as part of a team * Ability to multi-task and operate effectively and efficiently under pressure * Ability to balance client and Firm needs and achieve desired outcomes * Bachelors degree requiredWHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MORGAN STANLEY:We are committed to maintaining the first-class service and high standard of excellence that have defined Morgan Stanley for over 89 years.
