Position: Associate
Reports To: Senior Manager, Centralized Investor Services FATCA (Mumbai)

Fund Services
This wholly owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley administers over $500 billion of hedge fund assets. Using the firm's proprietary, globally accessible technology platform, the business provides a full range of fund administration services, including daily accounting and financial reporting; transfer agency and investor services; middle and back-office support; and integrated portfolio analytics. Morgan Stanley Fund Services is supported by more than 1,100 professionals based in New York, London, Hong Kong, Dublin, Glasgow, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
The U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) are regulations that impose upon affected Financial Institutions a due diligence and reporting regime of their Account Holders to interested governments and tax authorities. Impacting hedge funds and their investors, the rules are part of a global effort to enforce international tax compliance and transparency. Over 100 countries participate in the two regimes and automatically exchange Account Holder information with each other annually.
The global FATCA/CRS Team specializes in and supports hedge fund clients with these regulations and related tax matters. FATCA/CRS Operations Analysts work as part of a Maker, Checker, Reviewer process and are responsible for the daily upload, data entry, and data checking of information from investor tax documentation for review by FATCA/CRS Tax specialists. Deficiencies in the investor tax documentation are noted by the FATCA/CRS Tax specialists and emailed to the investor by the FATCA/CRS Operations Analyst who is then responsible for following up and monitoring responses. The FATCA/CRS Operations Analyst also is responsible for monthly client set-up activities and supports the FATCA/CRS Tax specialists on ad hoc data remediations. Staff for this function is located in Mumbai, India.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process the FATCA/CRS documentation provided in connection with investor on boarding (i.e. IRS Form W-9/W-8 and Self-Certifications).
- Update and maintain investor tax information in the system by processing tax forms or changes requested by the investor or their representatives for tax status.
- Release deficiency emails to the investors noting deficiencies in their FATCA/CRS documentation.
- Perform timely follow-up with the investor on outstanding deficiencies and address any queries they may have, escalating to the FATCA/CRS tax specialists as needed
- Replying to investor responses with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Participate in yearly FATCA/CRS reporting preparation.
- Providing an effective daily hand over to the team leads for the respective shifts.
- Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) on system enhancements and automation.
- Highlight any changes in system behaviours timely and coordinate with IT for fix.
- Keeping line management appraised of operational issues and updates.
- Prepare different control MIS reports and publish to senior management/internal teams across locations.
Team participation:
FATCA/CRS Associate work as a member of a global team. Frequent interaction will include work with colleagues whose focus is on fund accounting, AML, and Investor Services.
Projects:
- FATCA/CRS Operations Associate have opportunities to participate in various IT and Operational Projects. Contributions include:
- Identifying system enhancements that reduce operational risk, create operational efficiency or improve customer service.
- Participating in the key elements of the project life cycle (Specification, Testing and Operational Implementation).
- Participating in the conversion of records from other administrators.
Qualifications, experience, and skills needed:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Management.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry, particularly hedge funds, a significant benefit.
- Good team player and ability to work independently with little supervision but also knows when to seek help and escalate issues where necessary.
- Very strong organizational skills, particularly the ability to keep track of multiple open items at once and prioritize.
- Good administrative and organisational skills with a particular focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- An ability to work under pressure and an ability to cope with increased workloads at month-end.
