Trademark Docket Supervisor

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Docketing Supervisor with our Trademark support group. The Docket Supervisor in the Intellectual Property Trademark Support Unit (TMSU) provides docketing assistance to attorneys and paralegals and supervises and oversees the daily workflow of the docket specialists in the Trademark unit, including responsibility for administration, management, as well as the career progression and professional development of the trademark docket specialists.

This position will reside in our Washington office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of Trademark docketing staff, including workflow and assignments, quality control of work, and coordination of work in the CPI database.
  • Provide leadership including team building and training, provide constructive feedback.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Trademark Portfolio Services to identify policy and procedure best practices.
  • Manage and control portfolio operations and maintenance fees and all related tasks.
  • Oversee the routing of all incoming trademark-related documents.
  • Receive and review the TMSU Docketing staff timesheets and leave requests, including planning for backup within the department during absences.
  • Maintain docket due dates and remarks in the computerized docket system and provide reporting.
  • Manage transfer-in and transfer-out records in accordance with firm policy and procedures.
  • Monitor actions in the CPI database.
  • Implement database update rules changes based on changing Trademark laws, rules, and procedures.
  • Verify docket database accuracy through spot checks, verification of docket entries from incoming mail and by other means.
  • Facilitate staff development by providing opportunities and support; provide timely feedback on work product; regularly coach, evaluate, and recognize staff performance and accomplishments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and post-high school education preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years docketing experience with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience with CPI, Workday, MS Office including Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.
