Litigation Paralegal

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Paralegal for our Litigation Practice Group. This position will be responsible for supporting and/or managing various sizes of labor and employment matters, as well as specific projects supporting those matters, which may include document management, technological applications, trial support, and editorial and research functions. The Paralegal is also responsible for those projects delegated to them by the Manager of Legal Practice Support and Attorneys.

This position will reside in the New York office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

I. Document and Case Management

  • Establish, organize and maintain case and client files
  • Manage information manually and through the use of computerized databases
  • With supervision, coordinate the gathering of information, materials, documents, reports, and evidence necessary to respond to discovery including analysis of client documents for relevance and privilege.
  • With supervision, analyze, organize, synthesize and summarize documents and materials received from adverse
  • Prepare subpoenas for depositions, hearings, production of documents, and trial appearance
  • Prepare Freedom of Information Requests
  • Assist with digesting and summarizing depositions and other legal documents

II. Trial Support

  • Prepare trial/hearing/arbitration/mediation materials
  • Organize evidence and prepare exhibits
  • Locate, track, and disseminate information/evidence
  • With direction, coordinate all trial/hearing/arbitration/mediation logistics
  • Coordinate with Practice Technology and IT resources regarding equipment and presentation of evidence to be utilized at trial

III. Editorial Support and Research Support

  • With supervision, assist with the compilation, drafting , proofreading, editing, and gathering of factual support for briefs and dispositive motions
  • Draft correspondence, reports, documents and other written material
  • With direction, summarize and analyze factual and statistical
  • Perform editorial and research support
  • With direction, Bluebook and cite check briefs and dispositive motions
  • With supervision, conduct online legal and factual research
  • Perform cite-checking, shepardizing and legal research both manually and electronically

IV. Administrative

  • Timely completion of time entry and other administrative responsibilities
  • Attend firm team/group meetings and continuing education programs/seminars

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; paralegal certificate preferred but not required
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of experience including experience and understanding of FINRA
  • Adhering to legal and ethical principles that guide paralegal conduct, including, but not limited to: the unauthorized practice of law; confidentiality and attorney-client privilege; conflicts of interest
  • Aptitude for general legal terminology, basic legal principles, and legal processes
  • Knowledge of court rules, procedures and protocols as well as rules of evidence, including Federal rules governing electronic discovery
  • Written and verbal communication skills in team atmosphere
  • Customer service and Interpersonal skills
  • Project management and organizational skills as well as problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and professional publications, prepare business correspondence, proposals and reports, effectively present information to groups, and respond to question from peers, managers, clients and vendors
  • Ability to apply the Uniform System of Citation
  • Knowledge of court rules, procedures and protocols
  • Rules of evidence, including Federal rules governing electronic discovery

  • Document Management such as iManage
  • MS-Office (Outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access)
  • Interwoven, Adobe Reader, FileMaker Pro, Full Authority, Acrobat Writer, Folio Views, Legal MacPac

For positions in NY, the salary range for this job posting is
$61,639.00 - $98,622.25.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
