Principal Product Manager
About Modern Animal
Modern Animal is reimagining the veterinary experience—for pets, their humans, and the medical teams who care for them. With thoughtfully designed clinics, a membership-based model, and modern software, we’re creating a new standard of care. Our ecosystem includes a member app for booking, messaging, and telemedicine; an EMR platform that reduces documentation burden; and pricing and membership strategies that align incentives while raising the bar for medical quality.
We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to shape the future of our platform and clinics. This role is for someone who thrives on solving complex problems through first-principles thinking, and who enjoys both strategy and hands-on customer discovery. Over time, it could evolve into a GM-style leadership role.
Location & Work Style
- Based in Los Angeles at our Culver City office.
- In-office 3 days per week, plus regular time in clinics.
- Must genuinely love pets and the veterinary profession.
Responsibilities
- Define vision and roadmap for key domains (scheduling, EMR, operations, membership, pricing).
- Conduct field research; uncover clinic and member needs; translate into product opportunities.
- Deliver measurable impact (e.g., appointment availability, retention, throughput, documentation time).
- Lead cross-functional teams to launch products with strong adoption and operational fit.
- Use data and metrics to guide prioritization and track outcomes.
- Partner across engineering, design, operations, and business leadership.
- Potentially expand into GM-style ownership of a business unit.
Qualifications
Must-Haves
- 10+ years in product management, including senior/principal scope.
- Track record of shipping complex, multi-team systems.
- Strong first-principles thinker with excellent writing and communication.
- Hands-on discovery and customer research experience.
- Technical and data fluency.
- Passion for pets and veterinary care.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with EMR/EHR, provider tooling, scheduling, or membership products.
- Consultancy or GM-style background with business and operational exposure.
- Pricing strategy expertise.
- Experience across startups and larger organizations.
- Seasoned polish from operating at a high level, influencing executives and partners.
