The Staff Accountant role at Major League Baseball is a unique opportunity to support the tax function, primarily working in the space in between the Finance Department, Payroll Department, and External Payroll Tax Providers to monitor payroll tax filings and identify and address tax exposure issues. The Staff Accountant maintains tax records and is responsible for assisting with payroll tax and business licenses and registrations for multiple legal entities, reporting directly to and working closely with the Senior Director of Tax.
Responsibilities
- Confirm all payroll tax returns were filed and paid on time and assist with payroll bank account and GL account reconciliations
- Review quarterly reports of payroll tax filing exceptions to identify unfiled reports and action needed to resolve issues
- Review all Workday notifications for correct company and to identify any tax exposure issues
- Review employee roster on quarterly basis to identify any tax exposure issues
- Assist with payroll registrations and notices
- Prepare and file certain quarterly payroll related returns or payments
- Collaborate with payroll department on outstanding filings and balances
- Maintain listing of payroll tax open items and responsible parties
- Maintain matrix of entities and operating jurisdictions
- Maintain matrix of tax accounts and logins
- Assist with ad hoc tax and accounting work

Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 1-2 years of experience in a payroll tax, accounting or similar role
- High attention to detail
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication skills: written and quantitative
- Commitment to taking ownership of and pride in your work
- Collaborative and positive orientation
- Willingness to pivot and learn
- Experience with Oracle ERP
- Experience with Workday, Ceridian/Dayforce or relevant/comparable tax and HR systems
Pay Range: $80,000 - $95,000
As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
