MAJOR PURPOSE:
The Spray Technician for the Jackie Robinson Training Complex (JRTC) is responsible for the integrated pest management program for exterior areas and athletic field turf. The Spray Technician oversees a comprehensive preventative & integrated pest maintenance program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and implements an integrated pest management program for exterior areas of the institution using a composite of techniques to include physical, chemical, mechanical, and biological methods.
Ensures compliance with all application policies, procedures, laws, and regulations; manages database of information to ensure compliance with all applicable State, Federal, and Department of Homeland Security requirements.

Makes accurate pest identification and recommends appropriate treatments using IPM principles.
Identifies maintenance and procedural modifications, which will decrease exterior pest incidence.
Maintains arthropod inventory and specimen collection.
Maintains work area, storage facilities, personal protective, and application equipment in a safe and operable manner.
Performs all necessary and appropriate mixing, loading, application, and disposal of chemicals.
Maintain and perform chemical inventories.
Comply with OSHA safety standards.
Assist Groundskeepers with grounds maintenance tasks when necessary, including but not limited to mowing, field prep and debris blowing/cleanup.
Assist with field tarp placements during adverse weather conditions.
Other duties as assigned by the Assist Manager, Grounds or Manager, Grounds.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Minimum 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Must possess a Florida Pesticide and Fertilizer Applicator Turf and Ornamentals License or have the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
Ability to lift/move/carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
Ability to use/operate typical groundskeeping hand tools and power equipment on a regular basis.
Able to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Candidate must be a professional, self-starter who will work as a team player and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
