Senior Manager, Marketing Strategy & Business Managment

Major League Baseball’s Office of the Commissioner is seeking a Senior Manager to join its Marketing Strategy team. This team provides advisory to Marketing Leadership in all aspects of the business (strategy and planning, budget management, organization and people, fan insights, and performance measurement), coordinating among Marketing departments and other League functions (Finance, Insights and Analytics, Strategy, Partnerships, etc.) to align and translate business goals into strategic plans.

Responsibilities 

Strategy

  • Partner with senior leaders to develop annual and long-range marketing goals, objectives, and strategic priorities planning while ensuring alignment with broader MLB-wide planning processes (including annual budget planning)
  • Orchestrate institutional alignment and implementation of strategic marketing plans across Marketing teams and internal stakeholders (Partnerships, Paid Content, Product, etc.)
  • Translate Leadership’s vision and strategic objectives into actionable operational plans and sustainable execution rhythms to drive business impact, including the creation and maintenance of planning calendars

Analytics

  • In partnership with Marketing functional teams and Analytics, and third party vendors:
  • Develop and maintain, and act as a central source for  actionable fan insights and target audience strategy, including segmentation
  • Develop and maintain marketing performance measurement framework, translating high level Marketing goals/objectives into clear, prioritized KPIs/metrics that accurately measure success against strategic priorities and align with enterprise business impact
  • Ensure consistency in measurement frameworks across regions while adapting to market-specific nuances in marketing performance and strategy
  • Monitor and analyze Marketing performance to ensure investments and initiatives are driving strategic goals, generating business insights (trends, risks, opportunities) to provide actionable recommendations to Marketing leadership and functional teams
  • Foster alignment and accountability across the organization and a collaborative environment to unify cross-functional teams
  • Consistently deliver high-quality executive reporting, contribute to and aggregate reporting materials for Owners Meetings and business reviews, and facilitate cross-departmental and partner communication and performance storytelling

Finance

  • Domestic Operating Expense, International Marketing Budgets, T&E, Labor
  • Oversee budget control of the Marketing group, acting as central point of contact between Finance, Accounting, Marketing department teams, and Leadership on day-to-day management, including forecasts, actuals, accrual exercises, ad hoc incremental investment proposals, variance reconciliation and reallocation
  • Provide near-real time expense tracking and reporting guidance, acting as general ledger of record for the Finance department on behalf of Marketing
  • Lead annual and long range Marketing budget planning, aligned with org goals and key internal stakeholder priorities (Partnerships, Paid Content, Product, Events, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Marketing functional teams to identify opportunities to optimize costs / maximize resources and drive strategy while reinforcing financial standards and best practices, including facilitation of vendor onboarding and billing management processes

Communications

  • Develop strategic communications and executive presentations for various business needs, including Owners Meetings, annual strategy, partner communications, senior management meetings, talking points for external engagements, team updates, and other planning and recap materials aligned with business cadences

Qualifications & Skills

  • 4-7 years experience in marketing, media, or a related functional area
  • Consulting experience preferred
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex information concisely and addressing both strategic and tactical items
  • Ability to build trust-based relationships and influence outcomes without formal authority
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel is a must
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and autonomous, with a strong sense of urgency and bias for action
  • Excellent judgment, independent decision-making, and ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented mindset
  • Expertise defining business cases, building roadmaps, and driving execution

Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
