Software Engineering Manager, OS Frameworks
The Horizon OS Performance and Reliability organization enables Virtual/Mixed Reality products to meet system health and optimization goals to bring a high quality experience to users. Our team builds the introspection tooling and infrastructure in the Operating System (OS) and backend required to monitor, understand, troubleshoot, and optimize performance and stability of Horizon OS across all software layers, from native OS up to user facing experiences. We are looking for an Engineer Manager with background on working on resource constrained systems (such as Embedded components or devices) and with OS frameworks background (such as Android, iOS, and Linux), where optimization of resource usage and observability are key for product success. The Engineer Manager primary focus will be on optimizing user-facing symptoms-such as stale frames, black screens, and other visible indicators of degraded performance-that directly impact the quality, reliability, and delightfulness of the user experience. The approach will be proactive, defining a holistic plan to understand system optimizations across the stack to drive improvements and partner with multiple internal stakeholder to drive change on many layers of Horizon OS.
Software Engineering Manager, OS Frameworks Responsibilities:
- Be a technical manager engaging in discussions about OS optimization and development across the full OS software stack
- Build a collaborative and respectful team environment, focused on delivering outcomes against organization & team goals
- Collaborate across software teams, production & Data engineering and science to define and build software components for better customer experiences
- Operate in a rapidly evolving environment, adapting quickly to new information and re-prioritizing as needed
- Evolve the team strategy & deliver towards tactical goals
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and be an effective people manager

- MS or BS in Computer Science or Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in developing and shipping OS components and/or Firmware for consumer electronics products
- 2+ years of experience in directly managing and leading teams
- Experience working with system performance and observability solutions
- Experience with building roadmaps and building a team to scale
- Experience working with remote teams
- Experience working with Android OS Platform or similar OS frameworks
- Experience working with C/C++, RUST, or similar lower level code languages

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
