The Optical Systems Engineering Team is looking for a creative optical systems engineer to develop and lead development and release of our next generation Display & Optics systems for Meta products. You will work cross-functionally with electrical, sensor, mechanical, display and other teams to ensure the performance and realization of optical products.
Optical Systems and Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the quality, test engineering, and technical operations teams to drive architected systems into mass production for electro-optical and electro-mechanical designs, system integration and verification including control software.
- Identify new concepts, develop and lead new innovative processes, assembly and integration of technologies and control systems that improve optical performance and system cost.
- Distill product-level requirements to optical system design and requirements. Perform requirement flowdown and budgeting to various subsystems.
- Drive the optics, display, mechanical, electronics, software and other cross-functional engineering teams to define, develop, realize, and simulate a variety of optical systems.
- Create and maintain engineering specifications. Specify key performance indicators, test methods, and test requirements for components and systems. Work closely with domestic and international vendors.

- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of product development industry experience.
- Experience with electronic components, review EE layout, debug EE issues, and bring up the EE system.
- General knowledge of optics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and colorimetry, physical and geometric optics, and polarization.
- Proven record in developing complex systems involving optics, mechanics, and automation. Experience working with system-level prototyping work, including hands-on prototyping of bench-top optical components.
- Experience with optics technologies with one or more of the following: AF camera actuator (e.g. VCM), digital zoom lens, image stabilization OIS technology, scanning based display, physical optics, computational optics, holography, Image quality evaluation, Stray light molding and analysis, lens testing and characterization, Imaging optics design and manufacturing, Illumination optics design and manufacturing, Visual Optics, or Optical testing and metrology. radiometry and photometry.
- Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment with minimal direction and working with uncertainty and directing XFN teams to manage the risk portfolio at different stages of product development.
- Advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Software or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of consumer product / industry experience.
- Experience in statistical analysis using JMP, Matlab, or similar programs.
- Developing game engines such as Unity or Unreal
- Developing AR/VR applications
- Working with electrical engineers, FPGA or firmware developers
- Experience with display and sensing components, such as near-eye displays and sensors.
- Develop prototypes and collaborate in a team environment across a diverse set of disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, and Optics.
