At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products and this team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products. Their mission is to create see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. This involves designing the architecture and all display sub-systems for Augmented Reality glasses based on leading technologies developed by Meta's teams. We work on creating advanced display technologies that are essential for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality systems while having sub-teams who connect bits, electrons, photons, and user experience for display products across wearables and the metaverse while focusing on display silicon architecture, applied perception studies, image quality, and defining the roadmap and long-term platform development strategy. Within XDO we also aim to develop and implement test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support the creation of transparent display systems.

Display Optical Engineer Responsibilities:
- Drive the execution of display engineering builds on-site in particular, identify display risks, track and resolve issues through various phases of engineering development and production
- Serve as gatekeeper for display performance across modules and systems at factories throughout the engineering build phases
- Verify and validate the display performance, drive the failure analysis of display/optical performance gap across display supply chain, and drive corrective actions to improve performance and customer experience
- Support the iteration of module-system specification allocation and convergence using build data and DOEs (Design of Experiments), and advanced analysis. Resolve discrepancies and ensure alignment across all levels across factories and supply chains
- Perform data-driven tolerance analysis and manage performance budgets of optic modules, balancing manufacturability, cost implications, and system-level KPIs to optimize overall system performance
- Develop and derive new performance indicators at both component and system levels to quantify new display artifacts and develop corresponding specs
- Lead display optical discussions in factories and serve as the display and optical interface between multiple functions (Metrology, process engineering, reliability engineering, Tech Ops, metrology)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially the teams in the US to enable productive and efficient work models across time zones
- Lead and guide international suppliers to execute display optical tasks, ranging from build execution, offline DOEs and data analysis, to scaling suppliers' capacity to support multiple product programs
- Bachelor's degree in Display Engineering, Optical engineering, Optics, Physics, Optics, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of optical engineering experience in high-volume consumer electronics product development
- Systems design, Imaging, Illumination, Radiometry and photometry, Physical and geometric optics, Polarization optics, optical coating

Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today-beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics.
