Meta is seeking a Controls Engineer Design Lead experienced in the design and construction of critical facilities to become part of our data center design team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates. Building and operating reliable and efficient data centers is essential to support the growth of Meta. The data center design team collaborates with multiple key stakeholders to ensure engineering and design of our data centers incorporate considerations from micro-levels (servers and IT equipment design requirements) to macro-levels (mechanical cooling and power distribution options) to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of our compute infrastructure.As an integral part of the Design team, this role will lead design and construction administration as an Owner Representative leading the Controls Engineer discipline as a subject matter expert. The Controls Engineer will collaborate with multiple stakeholders including internal partners such as Engineering, Construction Management, Quality, Safety, and Operations as well as external partners including Engineers of Record (EoR), general contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver data center capacity safely, on time, within budget, and of high quality. This position is full-time providing direction aligned with the pace of fast-tracked construction.

Data Center Design Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Lead projects through concept, schematic, design development, construction documents, construction administration and turn-over as Controls technical domain lead on new builds (greenfield), leased facility and retrofits projects.
  • Lead quality approval, process control, product evaluation, vendor proposals, automated testing, software, research and development.
  • Responsible for controls systems strategies, design, specifications, programming, simulation, testing as well as vendor and commissioning oversight.
  • Prepare and issue Request for Proposals (RFP), analyze and make award recommendations, manage and administer project/program level contracts, review/approve change cost proposals, value engineering proposals, invoices, shop drawings, submittals, requests for information, reports/audits/studies and other design related deliverables.
  • Lead development and initiate standards and methods for processes, control logic and sequences, testing, evaluation, and integration.
  • Review BMS change management and provide feedback.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams across different disciplines internally and externally. Hold EoR teams accountable on deliverables and performance by providing actionable feedback, including from other stakeholders such as Construction, and by participating in the project health reviews.
  • In collaboration with stakeholders, analyze forward thinking ideas to identify and mitigate risks, and embedding lessons learned into current and future products.
  • Close collaboration and engagement with the Quality Team, with focus on area walk downs, critical benchmarks, systems integration and operation, issue resolution, commissioning script review and implementation, and providing technical support and guidance on Design related matters.
  • Support Facilities Engineering and Operations Team on knowledge sharing, technical guidance and system operation of Design throughout the project schedule.
  • Drive project schedules while working closely with design and construction to ensure milestones and completion dates are on track. Drive opportunities to compress schedules proactively and in response to business needs.
  • Develop facility and vendor commissioning tests and standards for BMS project training close out efforts.
  • Travel to datacenter sites for engineering studies, mechanical/electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
  • Travel to various equipment and bench testing sites, as well as remotely located design working sessions.
  • Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of experience with mission critical control system design, development, construction and operations
  • Experience with industry standards, building codes and safety standards
  • Experience with Google Suite, Revit/BIM, Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar design software applications
  • Experience of BACnet protocol to include IP, ETH and MS/TP
  • Experience of Modbus protocol to include TCP, and RTU
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and psychrometrics
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and schematics. Low voltage and high voltage
  • Experience establishing working relationships and navigating competing priorities
  • Knowledge of Networking Server/Client Workstations
  • Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Project Management experience
  • Presentation skills to peers, stakeholders and leadership. Demonstrated track record of crafting clear and concise emails, reports & documents for a broad range of stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as an Owner's Representative
  • Knowledge of BAS, DDC, and PLC programming language
  • Certifications in various control systems including Network Plus (N+) certification
  • IT and server hardware background
  • Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) understanding and working knowledge
  • Schneider Electric PLC/Unity Pro experience
  • SCADA understanding and working knowledge
  • OPC UA understanding and working knowledge

$195,000/year to $267,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
