Audio Engineer
Meta Reality Labs Research has embarked on an ambitious mission to build the next computing platform in augmented and virtual reality systems. We are looking for an innovative Audio Engineer to join our growing interdisciplinary team, working to solve challenging problems at the intersection of hearing, acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio, and signal processing. In this role, you will focus on performing applied research towards advanced models for audio applications on Smart Glasses / AR technology.The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in technical skills and experience in perceptual audio evaluation, sensory evaluation and audio signal processing in application to a range of audio and speech processing technologies.
Audio Engineer Responsibilities:
- be conducting research with expert, consumer, and crowd panels evaluating the latest development in audio and immersive audio technology to ensure consumer acceptance
- collaborate with a team of experts to develop state of the art approaches to data collection using crowd sourcing and other methods
- establish protocols and collaborative partnerships for executing large scale perceptual evaluation experiments
- use existing and/or develop novel statistical analysis methods to gain maximum insight into the collected data to benefit product development

- Advanced degree in acoustics, perception, hearing science, audio engineering, psychoacoustics, or a related field with an emphasis on perceptual evaluation, psychoacoustics, and/or metrics evaluating perceptual performance
- 2+ years of experience working in the audio field as an engineer, researcher or a scientist
- 2+ years of experience with statistical analysis tools (R, Matlab, SPSS, SAS, XLStat, etc.)
- 1+ years of experience with perceptual evaluation, listening tests, sensory evaluation
- Fluent in both English is a must, as well as Mandarin as the role will work with suppliers or vendors in China
- PhD in hearing science, acoustics, acoustic engineering, perceptual psychology, psychoacoustics, neuroscience, or a related field with an emphasis on perceptual evaluation, psychoacoustics/physics, and/or metrics evaluating perceptual performance
- Experience with postdoctoral training, or industry experience conducting research investigating audio quality or audio perception
- Experience with perceptual evaluation tools and methods, listening tests and/or sensory evaluation
- Familiarity with commonly standardized and advanced perceptual audio evaluation techniques, with extensive hands-on experience
- Significant experience with running perceptual evaluation experiments, leading assessor's panels, and designing novel experimental methods
- Extensive experience with expert/crowd sourcing data collection
- Experience with traditional statistical modelling techniques (regression, ML-based, etc.)
- Knowledge of audio processing techniques relating to spatial sound, distortion, etc
- Experience with design of experiment techniques
- Experience with remote collaboration
- Good communication skills and experience in presenting results internally and at conferences + experience in Journal publication
