Position Description:

Radiation Safety Specialists

With Radiation Safety Officer and management direction, the Radiation Safety Specialist is responsible for providing compliant EHS programs to departments at the West Point and North Wales sites.

This role partners with operations and research departments to develop objectives and actions to achieve EHS in alignment with site business goals and values.

Job Duties Include:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain radiation safety procedures, programs, and systems in accordance with regulatory and company requirements, under the guidance of the RSO.
  • Conduct regular inspections and surveys to assess compliance with safety and regulatory requirements for the use of radioactive materials and radiation producing machines.
  • Coordinate the disposal of low-level radioactive and mixed waste, including planning and managing waste disposal campaigns.
  • Support interactions with regulatory agencies and ensure timely and accurate reporting of data and information related to routine/annual submittals.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to personnel on radiation safety procedures and best practices.
  • Investigate incidents related to potential radiation hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in processes, procedures, and equipment to minimize potential hazards.
  • Collaborate with scientific and technical staff to address radiation safety issues and support the mission of the organization.
  • Organize, maintain, and manage documentation, records, and data in files, databases, and systems tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in health physics, engineering, physics, chemistry, or a similar science- based field from an accredited college or university

Required Experience and Skills:

  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of radiation with demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state regulations governing radioactive materials and radiation producing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations and ensure environmental, health, and safety program compliance.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, and other software.

Preferred Experience and Skills::

  • Knowledge of analytical instruments such as MRI, computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and various x-ray modalities.
  • Experience with the management of radioactive and mixed waste programs.
