The Director of Facilities & Security is a strategic leader responsible for the comprehensive oversight of engineering, maintenance, and security functions for The Luxury Collection Manhattan Midtown. This role ensures all facilities and security operations align with the hotel’s brand standards, compliance requirements, and long-term asset management goals. The Director will lead departmental strategy, optimize operational performance, manage multi-million-dollar capital and operational budgets, and foster a culture of safety, service, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership & Operations

  • Provide visionary leadership and direction for all engineering and security functions, aligning department goals with the hotel’s strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of long-term capital improvement plans, sustainability initiatives, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure optimal performance of all building systems (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, life safety, and IT infrastructure) through strategic asset lifecycle management.
  • Ensure all engineering and security policies and procedures are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.

Budgeting & Financial Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor capital expenditure and operational budgets for engineering and security.
  • Lead monthly P&L reviews, forecast performance, and implement cost-control measures to ensure budget adherence while maximizing ROI.
  • Oversee contract negotiations, vendor relationships, and procurement to achieve cost-effective solutions.

Facilities & Engineering Oversight

  • Direct property-wide maintenance initiatives to preserve the aesthetic and structural integrity of the building.
  • Lead renovation and special projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget compliance, and quality assurance.
  • Ensure implementation and regular updates of the hotel’s energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.

Security & Risk Management

  • Lead the hotel’s physical and cybersecurity programs, ensuring protection of assets, guests, and employees.
  • Oversee development and execution of emergency preparedness plans, life safety compliance, and crisis response protocols.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and legal teams on all matters related to risk mitigation, data protection, and compliance.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and security personnel, promoting a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff on technical skills, safety protocols, and customer service excellence.
  • Maintain a proactive, visible leadership presence within the department and hotel.

Guest Experience & Brand Alignment

  • Ensure all maintenance and security functions support a luxurious, seamless guest experience.
  • Partner with other departments to quickly resolve guest concerns, minimizing disruption and enhancing satisfaction.
  • Monitor feedback channels (e.g., comment cards, surveys) to address issues proactively and drive service improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Hospitality Management or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive engineering and facilities management experience, including at least 3 years at a senior management level in a luxury or unionized hotel environment.
  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience managing large-scale budgets and capital projects.
  • Proven leadership in security operations, risk management, and OSHA compliance.
  • Certifications: Stationary Engineer’s License (if required), EPA, CPO, CPR preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes, fire/life safety standards, and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing in a union environment strongly preferred.
