Innovate Distribution Center layouts by conceptualizing & implementing cutting-edge automated material handling equipment (MHE) solutions. Apply engineering expertise to proactively identify opportunities for integrating state-of-the-art MHE and technology enhancements into day-to-day operations. Design detailed schematics using advanced CAD tools that map out efficient automation system placements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to tailor layouts that seamlessly blend automation with optimized MHE performance. Perform ROI analysis to gauge new technologies and assess value before implementation. Drive operational excellence by implementing designs that ensure safety, scalability, and enhanced throughput.

  • Pay rate: $90,000 to $105,000 per year.
  • This role is also eligible to participate in the annual incentive plan with a target incentive of 12.5% of your base annual salary.

What you'll do as a MHE Solutions & Automation Engineer:

  • Analyze facility workflows and current distribution processes to determine the optimal design of automated systems.
  • Develop detailed layout designs and schematic drawings using CAD or other design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to illustrate equipment placements, conveyor routes, storage systems, and integration points.
  • Create comprehensive design documentation that outlines equipment specifications, spatial requirements, and layout guidelines.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and facility engineers, as well as vendors, to select and specify automated equipment (such as conveyors, sorters, and robotics) that align with the overall facility design.
  • Ensure design solutions comply with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
  • Utilize simulation and process modeling tools to validate design concepts, ensuring that layouts meet throughput, efficiency, and safety targets.
  • Conduct site assessments and design reviews to confirm that the proposed layouts are practical and effective in real-world operational conditions.
  • Serve as the design lead during project implementation, providing technical oversight to ensure that the installation and layout of automated systems match the design specifications.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, design revisions, and reports that facilitate clear communication between engineering, operations, and external stakeholders.
  • Develop visual presentations and layout maps to communicate design intent and improvements to both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Research and integrate emerging trends in facility design and automation layout techniques.
  • Propose design enhancements to continuously improve the operational efficiency and scalability of our distribution center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications you'll bring as a MHE Solutions & Automation Engineer:

  • BS in electrical, mechanical, related engineering field, or relevant experience.
  • Three or more years of experience developing and implementing automation projects in an industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience in the implementation and operation of industrial process automation.
  • Experience working in a distribution center and/or automation integration is preferred.
  • Experience in facility design, infrastructure, and Capital Equipment Acquisition.
  • Expertise with AutoCAD software.
  • Experience with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with SQL programming language preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel.
  • Knowledge of process engineering and industrial engineering concepts.
  • Familiarity with MHE automation solutions and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation, sensors, and controls.
  • An ability to identify and solve problems and effectively communicate and advocate for these solutions to others (from operators to management).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to stay informed about the latest trends and technologies in industrial automation and distribution center operations.
  • Ability to learn vendor software and attend vendor training.
  • Understanding of electrical-mechanical systems.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
