The Brand Creative Operations team manages all asset creation for packaging graphics, structure, e-commerce, and instruction sheets. Job Description
The Opportunity:
Mattel is currently seeking a Packaging Designer in East Aurora, NY. This role will be a member of a dynamic and collaborative team of Graphic Designers, Structural Engineers and Copywriters focused on creating assets for packaging and ecommerce across a variety of categories. The packaging designer will be involved in the packaging and e-commerce design process from concept to final assets. This position reports directly into the Sr Manager of Packaging.
What Your Impact Will Be:
- Will be responsible for the graphic design of toy packaging and ecommerce assets from concept to production for assigned categories within the Fisher-Price brand portfolio
- Will work closely with local marketing/design/engineering departments and overseas counterparts to produce high quality, visual creative designs
- Partner with our on-site photo studio to art direct photography for package and ecommerce assets
- Direct illustrations as needed through working with illustration vendors
- Attend and participate in the weekly cross-functional team meetings
- Communicate with the Hong Kong/China based packaging teams on production issues
- Understand how to monitor and follow packaging and ecommerce status schedules to keep projects on time
- Available for occasional off-site meetings as required
- Maintain knowledge of new trends and innovation in package design/development
- Team with on-site staff to prepare physical package samples for assigned brands
- Present concepts and design strategies to cross-functional team members and management

What We’re Looking For:
- BFA Degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, or related degree with previous graphic design experience
- 3-4 years of graphic design experience
- Consumer Goods Packaging Experience a plus
- Toy experience preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to transform business objectives into high quality, creative design concepts
- Proficiency in Adobe Cloud applications including Illustrator & Photoshop as well as MS Office
- Ability to work with outside licensors and cultivate relationships
- Ability to work with internal and external style guides and apply as necessary
- Working knowledge of type manipulation, photography, mechanical art production
- Strong aesthetic skills
- Graphic design skills which can be applied against potential projects like cross sells, point of sale displays and related promotional graphics
- Excellent time management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Well-developed project management skills
- Strong communication skills with ability to work with individuals at all levels
- Strong Presentation skills
- Illustration/sketching skills a plus
- Work closely with overseas team to help direct mechanical build
- Print production knowledge is a plus
- Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

*The pay range is indicative of projected hiring range, however base pay will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
