Title and Summary

Principal Software Engineer (Hands on Coding with experience on event driven architecture)

Overview:

As a Principal Engineer at the Paved Path Framework (PPF) Organization, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction, architecture, design, and engineering practices of software frameworks. PPF is an organization within Mastercard that enables software engineering staff to focus on delivering customer value by providing software frameworks that eliminate undifferentiated heavy lifting and align with our Engineering Principles. Mastercard builds and operates large-scale, highly distributed systems that process over 1 billion transactions per day, and PPF plays a key role in enabling this.

This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the leader of the PPF Organization. The ideal candidate should be passionate about technology and software development, hands-on, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possess strong technical leadership skills.

Role:

The key responsibilities of this role are:
• Leading the technical direction, architecture, design, and engineering practices for PPF.
• Prototyping and proving concepts for new technologies, application frameworks, and design patterns to improve software development practices.
• Developing, testing, and deploying software frameworks to enable software engineering teams to deliver business values for our customers.
• Collaborating with business and product owners to architect and deliver new services and ensuring that these services meet customer needs.
• Balancing trade-offs between competing interests with judgment and experience.
• Identifying synergies and reuse opportunities across teams and programs.
• Engaging with external technical communities to extend our reach and benefit from the discovery outside of Mastercard and our industry.
• Assisting people managers in the talent management process, including hiring strong engineering talent and running performance evaluations.

All about you:

The key qualifications of the candidate are:
• Current, deep, hands-on software engineering experience in architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge in event-driven architecture, zero trust, or other related areas.
• Strong experience in software development using Java, Go, or other major programming languages to develop high-quality software frameworks.
• Rich experience in Java programming language and Spring and other associated frameworks is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and technical skills, making you a recognized technical leader with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Passionate about new technology and able to dive deep to form an objective evaluation and opinion on emerging technologies.
• Proven ability to mentor software engineers to improve their technical skills.
• Comfortable taking thoughtful risks and acquiring expertise as needed.
• Able to foster a comfortable environment for tough technical discussions where everyone can be heard.
