Sr. Engineer Factory Innovation

Job Description:

The Senior Engineer Factory Innovation implements new packs, products, and raw materials by creating process specs and packaging running conditions to achieve all quality standards and deliver efficient operation on Mars Wrigley factory lines. This role manages R&D line trials by coordinating requests with the site value stream, R&D, Engineering and Commercial to ensure optimal execution and knowledge capture. Additional responsibilities for this role include coaching and mentoring newer associates, acting as a regional expert in certain packaging or process technical areas and leading activities to optimize the efficiency of the Factory Innovation function as a whole.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related scientific or technical discipline with
  • 7+ years' experience in a food and/or manufacturing industry
  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
  • Demonstrated success influencing/leading others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advance Degree in Engineering or a closely related scientific or technical discipline
  • 7+ years' experience in a food and/or manufacturing industry Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Systems (HACCP), ISO, Regulatory Guidelines, Sensory, and/or Microbiology
  • Experience in food packaging and/or processing, with an understanding of processes and machine operation
  • Six Sigma Green Belt

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Be the key R&D factory interface for Packaging and Product Developers during the design and implementation of new packs, products, and raw materials.
  • Apply Six Sigma and Design for Vertical Startup tools to evaluate, risk assess and translate new packs, products, and raw materials to the factory.

    • Evaluate new packaging, products, and raw materials
    • Assess alternate material vendors to ensure security of supply for critical items
  • Create factory process recipes from approved product recipes for new products and raw materials
  • Determine correct packaging target weights for optimal performance
  • Document critical processing parameters in process specifications
  • Supports development of standard run conditions and center lines as part of new product, process, and pack validation
  • Assist Technical Services and value stream associates with escalated problem-solving opportunities
  • Apply functional expertise to assist the regional DS1 FI team in optimization of the work across sites as well as leading the development of improved processes and systems for the entire team.
