About the role:
In this role, you will develop software that runs on Lumafield’s volumetric imaging hardware.  You will need to understand data flow through a complex hardware and software system, leverage knowledge of modern application architecture, rapidly prototype potential solutions, and always keep the customer in mind. As an embedded software engineer, you will design and build the data acquisition and machine control software that produces data for the rest of Lumafield’s cloud-based software tools.

What you'll do:

  • Drive development of the tech stack running Lumafield’s scanners
  • Work closely with both hardware and software engineers on an ongoing basis
  • Inform product direction with sound engineering decision-making

About you:

  • Are very strong in Python and Linux
  • Have worked on a team to build and ship software
  • Have worked on software for a  hardware product
  • Weigh technology options carefully and communicate reasoning behind decisions
  • Have opinions about best practices for interface design
  • Think about security as part of design

Bonus points for:

  • Low-level systems programming, or embedded firmware
  • Experience with event loops and async programming, especially with Python 3’s asyncio
  • Broad knowledge of protocols like USB, RS-232, HTTP(S), websockets
  • Frontend web experience
  • Experience with modern web tooling, such as containerized deployments
  • Some fluency with image processing, computer vision, or related fields
  • A portfolio of your past work you can share
