Join Lowe's as a Principal Engineer on our Engineering Platform Services team, where you'll play a pivotal role in designing and building robust engineering platforms, frameworks, and tools that empower application development teams to deliver business-impacting solutions. Operating across public and private cloud infrastructure, this team creates foundational capabilities that accelerate product innovation at scale. In this role, you will bring deep technical expertise in key areas including frontend technologies to craft intuitive user experiences; middleware for developing scalable and resilient microservices and APIs; databases for architecting efficient and fit-for-purpose data persistence strategies across SQL, NoSQL, and distributed systems; and DevOps for automating the full software delivery lifecycle using CI/CD, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code. You will also be instrumental in realizing our vision of enhancing developer productivity through the integration of Generative AI tools, supporting not only engineers, but also product managers and UX designers across the development ecosystem.

What You Will Do
- Identifies problems, takes initiative, and makes an impact by driving clarity, convergence, and closure across teams and stakeholders.
- Actively looks out for tough problems (i.e., issues faced by customers, challenges faced by engineers, problems encountered by business leaders, etc.).
- Defines and executes the technical strategy for retail technology, ensuring alignment with business objectives, in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Decomposes complex problems to build simple solutions that can evolve over a period of time.
- Ensures smooth deployment and adoption of new systems in partnership with product owners and key stakeholders. Owns the end-to-end technical view of a solution and shapes the synergy between multiple systems.
- Identifies and analyzes tradeoffs to create exemplary architecture in terms of stability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Champions and implements modern software methodologies to streamline development processes.
- Provides technical leadership in design and development of a system. Ensures the best quality of high-level and low-level designs. Builds secure systems that protect information and assets while delivering business value. Dives deep and fixes a complex system issue. Drives root cause analysis during critical production outages.
- Implements robust testing strategies, including unit tests, integration tests, regression suites, and automated testing, to guarantee software reliability.
- Continuously monitors and optimizes the performance of software applications to provide the best customer experience and maintains clear and comprehensive documentation for software systems and processes.
- Creates a culture of structured problem solving by using techniques like the first principles, serves as a source of latest trends around the globe, and drives best practices to achieve high standards.
- Explores and adopts open-source technologies. Contributes back to open-source community.
- Ensures that operational overhead of the systems is very low. Ensures dashboards, runbooks, and alerts are well-maintained and up to date.
- Produces high quality code, documentation, tests, and monitoring. Conducts regular reviews of source code, low level design, and high-level design.
- Actively engages with team and mentors junior engineers on best practices and various aspects of software architecture, design, and implementation. Actively commits source code that serves as an example for other engineers to follow.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), or related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree) and 10 years of experience in software development or related field
- 8 years of experience in any of the following: software engineering competencies frontend technologies (UI/UX), middleware (microservices and APIs), database technologies, DevOps
- 8 years of experience working on project(s) involving the implementation of solutions applying development life cycles (SDLC)
Preferred Skills/Education
- Master's Degree in computer science, CIS, or related field or equivalent experience
- 8 years of experience working with defect or incident tracking software and application and integration middleware
- 8 years of experience working with four or more of the following: continuous integration/continuous deployment tools, frontend technologies (UX/UI), middleware, database technologies, DevOps
- 8 years of experience in systems analysis, including defining technical requirements and performing high level design for complex solutions
- 6 years of experience working with an IT Infrastructure Library framework
- 6 years of experience leading teams, with or without direct reports

Pay Range: $142,400.00 - $270,600.00 annually Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
