Your Impact

The primary purpose of the Manager, Product Engineering role is to lead the product engineering function for the Lowe's quality assurance (QA) group. This function will lead the product and quality engineering aspects of the Lowe's Private Brand product development process. This activity will support customer/stakeholder centered solutions through creative and thoughtful product engineering, while ensuring continuity of concept, and systems continuity across and throughout product development efforts. This includes interpreting design intent into technical possibilities and leading the translation of technically complex private brand products into customer centric solutions. This role will connect with leadership across quality assurance and global merchandising to ensure that QA program testing and performance expectations are clearly communicated and governed, with cross-functional alignment on goals/objectives.

What You Will Do

  • Leads the Product Engineering team activities to support the Lowe's Private Brands Initiative through supplementing the private brand product development process: test plan development, product testing/benchmarking, definition of product performance specifications.
  • Define projects eligible for execution via the Lowe's private brand product development stage gate process specific to Quality Assurance engagement areas.
  • Generate reporting to govern vendor compliance to Lowe's Private Brand Performance Specification testing program requirements. Utilize reporting, vendor communications, vendor training opportunities, and 3rd party labs to drive execution of vendor performance specification testing.
  • Manages product engineers and defines category responsibility to ensure adequate QA support of GM Order of Operations projects, Product Line Reviews, and other private brand product development merchandising activity. Responsibility over the product and quality engineering aspects of Lowe's Private Brand performance specification development projects and ongoing product engineering work supporting existing and new strategic private brand product platforms and vendor relationships. Ensures good communication, follow-through on project plans, and successful/on-time implementation of projects.
  • Drives collaboration by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders internally (across the global Quality Assurance teams and Global Merchandising, Core and Online Merchandising, etc.) and externally (with 3rd Party Labs) to achieve collective goals and objectives.
  • Hires, Develops and Leads Product Engineer and Sr. Product Engineer roles by providing clarity on project prioritization, coaching on private brand product engineering and project management best practices, providing meaningful feedback on development opportunities, and direct visibility to how they affect the business.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, technical sciences or other related field and
  • 5 years experience in leadership role over Product Engineering and Product Development functions
  • 7 years Experience working with a broad range of materials and manufacturing processes, Experience in creative problem solving and working cross-functionally with design and manufacturing to achieve cost targets, desired design intent and project deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience leading and/or facilitating projects
  • Technical report writing skills, effective oral presentation skills, ability to negotiate.
  • Excellent aptitude in mechanical, electrical, or other engineering disciplines.

Preferred Skills/Education

  • Master's Degree Engineering, technical sciences or other related field and 3-5 Years Experience managing complex programs Experience co-creating with designers and bringing product to production with overseas suppliers and engineers
  • Experience in testing consumer products in a laboratory environment.
  • Retail operations experience
